It's been a while since I came here so take this review with a grain of salt. My now ex and I came here for brunch on the weekend just as they were opening. We got lucky with the street parking as someone was pulling out right as we came up, so we did our best job as unseasoned San Francisco drivers to get the tires close to the curb and avoid letting the car roll down the hill. We both had the ube french toast and he also had the ube horchata. I was interested in the pandan pancakes and ube pancakes/waffles, but I don't believe those were available on the day that we went. My french toast was pretty good, only thing is that I would say the portions are rather small. It definitely wasn't a filling breakfast, but I wouldn't elect to have any more french toast as it would definitely sugar you out for the rest of the day! The ube horchata was good according to the ex, but definitely looked like something you probably should reserve for an occasional treat.

Was on my way to what seemed like the only sushi place open in the afternoon when I passed by 1608 Bistro. The decor had that hole-in-the-wall promise of unforgettable food. These are the best kinds of foodie finds, something you stumble across with no prior knowledge of. The french toast sticks with that ube cream dollop. Absolutely phenomenal. My favorite breakfast foods involve anything with syrup. Waffles, french toast, pancakes; but I wouldn't eat syrup alone. The french toast sticks were fried to perfection. Not burnt, not soggy, not overly crispy. Nice exterior crunch with bread fluffiness interior. Omgsh that ube. There's no other way for me to describe the ube other than "that ube". I may have eaten an entire brunch plate as dessert after I had a full lunch right next door.

Horrible service, food was even worse. Do not waste your time, many better choices in the area.
