I came here mainly for da Layered Rice Cake! Now-a-dayz, hard to find one of my childhood favorites - the "Layered Rice Cake". I guess maybe to make the Layered Rice Cake is to labor intensive? So folks would rather make the regular Rice Cakes, over the Layered Rice Cake??? Who knows............ Anyways, I decided to venture off in the Aiea neighborhood since I found out that this place called - "Aiea Manapua & Snacks" sold the Layered Rice Cakes, and sure enough, Aiea Manapua & Snacks did not disappoint me with their wonderful Layered Rice Cakes! 'Eh, do you folks know the technique for eating the Layered Rice Cake??? Let Bruddah Fran give you da scoops............ 1. First of all, you must know da difference between the top/bottom of the Layered Rice Cake. 2. How can you tell da top, from the bottom? Da top is brown! Da rest stay white! 3. K, now dat we get 'em all straightened out, we can now get down to da Layered Rice Cake eating technique. 4. To properly eat a Layered Rice Cake, you gotta eat from da bottom, to da top. Start by peeling da bottom layer (one at a time), eating each layer till you get to da top! 5. The finale is when you finally reach da top, you eat da brown top layer last! And there you have it gang.............Da Layered Rice Cake eating technique! 6. Now if you actually took the time to read all the crap I just wrote about the - "Layered Rice Cake eating technique", I was just pullin' your leg! Buwahahahahaha! There is actually NO Layered Rice Cake eating technique! Sorry............not sorry! :D 7. But in reality, I actually do that when I eat my Layered Rice Cake........call me eccentric, or maybe weird, but whateva's! Been eating it lil' dat since I was a kid!!! :D So why the 3 star rating of this place??? If I was just writing about Layered Rice Cakes, this place would get a solid "4" from me. The Layered Rice Cakes wasn't oily, the price was reasonable, and the Layered Rice Cake had good texture, & taste. Maybe the Layered Rice Cakes could have been a little sweeter, but acceptable in my eyes. As for the Baked Manapua I bought............. The Shoyu Chicken Manapua was okay, basically I got more bread than filling, but the filling was quite tasty. As for the Turkey Melt Manapua............I basically wasted ($2.19), as there wasn't much filling. Sure I could see the slice of turkey, & taste the cheese inside, but to me, it wasn't worth what they charged for their Turkey Melt Manapua. Also, both baked manapuas were sold at room temperature (cold)..........but I take it they probably made the manapuas fresh in the morning? And by the time I got there in the late morning, what do you expect? I guess 20-20 hindsight is that I should have waited and gone back to my office to pop both manapuas in the microwave before eating them, instead to gobblin' up both manapuas in my car after purchasing my items. To each it's own..........I do like this place, as they are imaginative in providing a lot of different types of filling for their manapuas. Prices here a bit higher, as compared to my regular manapua joints I frequent in Chinatown, but that is expected...........they are in Aiea. Need something quick? Or just hungry for a snack?
