Such a cute study spot on campus. Immediately drawn in by the exterior decor. It is located in a beautiful building with outdoor seating and shade. Their care for the environment and minimizing waste is apparent as soon as you step inside. They have a water-bottle filling station (that is really awesome), compostable options, metal straws for sale, etc. I find this important and love the statement that they are making. They have a flexible seating arrangement with couches, tables, a community high top, and the outdoor tables. They do not have their own free wifi, but there is an option for 30 minutes. I wasn't able to connect to University wifi unfortunately. Back to the important stuff; their food. Banán is very specialized and offer a twist on açaí bowls/frozen yogurt that is completely dairy free and plant based. They have a few options each day and lots of fresh, natural toppings. I chose the açaí flavor topped with mac nuts, strawberries, blueberries, and coconut flakes. I also ordered a cold brew coffee with unsweetened coconut. Everything was great and not overly sweet. Yes, pricey, but understandably so. They use local resources and great quality ingredients.
This was the most disturbing and unprofessional experience my friends and I have ever had. After spending over $60, we got accused of stealing an $11 pop socket. The employee didn't ask my friend about it, and instead told me he thinks she "scooped" a pop socket. That employee spread this accusation around to other employees and customers.. I explained the situation and got a "sorry about that, we'll let him know" The situation could've been handled much better without any issues, but it's clear the employees don't get proper customer service training. I'm not looking for compensation or attention, just that the employees learn how to properly deal with customers. We won't ever come back and don't recommend it to others..
My friends and I were accused of stealing a POPSOCKET at this establishment on Sept. 13th around 12pm. As one of my friends were buying a reusable utensil set, the male worker who was ringing her up mentioned the price of the pop sockets and that one of us "scooped" one of them. She came back to the table and told us what she was told. This enormously upset my 4 friends and I as we were all paying customers who purchased around $50-$60 worth of food and items collectively. After finishing our food, we voiced our feelings to the two female employees at the register as we did not appreciate being accused of stealing and not being directly confronted about it--and instead, having to play telephone and not having our side of the story being heard. After stating that we obviously did not steal anything, they responded with "he said he saw it on someone's phone already". My male friend came and showed his phone that had a Pokémon popsocket on the back. The girls didn't make any effort to make the situation right as they were just sitting down and it seemed as if they were more focused on painting their faces than dealing with some college kids. We definitely didn't feel any sincerity in their words and they didn't even bother to bring out the male worker who accused us in the first place. It's a shame that my friends' first time to Banán had to be this way. They definitely won't be coming back in the future. We came to Banán looking for a sweet treat but instead, we left with a sour taste in our mouths.
