I heard that this place was closing down. I really enjoyed coming here for the birthday prime ribs and lobster night. Just had one bad night out of all the years we have been coming here. We came in a group and my spouse and I treated out family out. When it came down to tipping, we always tip 15% or 15%+ even if the service wasn't great. When we tipped our waiter, he came back asking if we made a mistake requested for more of a tip. This was infront of our family members too. It was so rude that we brought it up to the manager. The manager offered a discount on our next visit but we did not take it. We just told the manager to better train her employee for next time. To find out he was new. But that shouldn't be an excuse.

Harbor Island holds a lot of very special memories for both my Beloved and I. You'll soon unwrap, between this review and my 400th review, the carefully woven tapestry of our decades long love affair. Although this particular restaurant isn't the pivotal component of our recent visit, It's an important one. It's not simply because it was next door to the Hilton, where we stayed this time around. The reason why it was important was that it allowed me to hold her hand as we took our short walk down Harbor Island. It was a temperate late afternoon in San Diego as we began our stroll. To our left was a perfect view of the Bay. To my right was a captivating view of the one person who makes every step of this stroll an ascendancy into the heavens. Even to this day, after countless number of restaurants we've dined at together, Harbor Island restaurants are near and dear to our hearts. There's Tom Ham's Lighthouse on one end. There's Island Prime on the other. Then,  there's the Boathouse restaurant in the middle. Speaking of ascendancy, the elevator was malfunctioning this particular day. Therefore, we had to ascend towards the restaurant via the long stairwell. It wasn't a problem since it just gave me more time to hold her hand. Upon entering, we were greeted by the cordial hostesses that guided us to our seats. Our seats were perfect, as we had a  stunning perspective of the quiet marina. Our waitress introduced herself and took our drink order. We took the time to enjoy each other's company as well as to familiarize ourselves with their offerings. I ordered the Seafood Captain's Platter. This was probably not an ideal choice as it was primarily fried. This often detracts from the flavor of the encrusted meals. However, the allure of this dish was the immensity of the portions, rather than the delicate flavors of the Prawns, Tilapia, and Calamari. They did say that it was lightly breaded, but that is a relative term depending on who's doing the breading. We were already a bit full from the delicious Calamari appetizer that we had already ordered! Nonetheless, the meal was delightful. It wasn't too crusty nor was it overdone in any way - unlike what one would expect from a typical seafood / fast food chain. My Beloved wife had the crab stuffed Fresh Salmon. They weren't overstating the freshness of the Salmon. It was quite delectable.  The crab stuffing was quite generous and authentic. Oftentimes, to shave off the production costs, restaurants will use frozen crab meat. Not here. We had a wonderful time just engaging in our normal banter with the Marina as a backdrop. It's hard to truly describe moments like these. I hope you get to relish such moments, as tomorrows are never promised. In spite of some of the negative reviews that I've read from some of my esteemed Yelper friends, we didn't experience any missteps with food or service. It was a moment at this wonderful establishment that she'll relish. I know, as she reads this review years later, she will remember that perfect moments like these sometimes do happen more than once in a lifetime!
