San Francisco, California, Estados Unidos

Update: As usual, Philippe does not disappoint & very social-but his lovely personality has zero to do with why I am awarding 5 stars. Back again for Xmas Eve '19. Menu Prix Fixe where you select appetizer, main course & desert, or... go for à la carte. Details: very nice "trio" of salmon, gravlax, smoked & roe arranged inside a creative array of sauces; onion soup (not a gratiné- so not super filling). They also had dinky yummy oysters, nice 'n briny (not sanitized & rinsed).  Main courses @ our table were duck-done French style, a bit rare so don't freak; filet mignon (excellent) & pork chop (tops). A word about the veggies: superb cluster of sautéd oyster (?) mushrooms. Others had roasted b. sprouts + obligatory tiny taters.  Desert: crème brulée & pain perdu were hits.  I'm still awarding 5 stars. Wine list continues to be extensive- or as I stated in my previous review, "deep and wide." Don't hesitate to ask the attentive, knowledgable staff. They are immediately there when you need them but don't hover (or G-- forbid introduce themselves & all of that). Chapeau also has fabulous, creative cocktails as well! Be aware, it's noisy (the friendly kind) when full. But if you call & reserve, ask for a table in the rear. You'll be pleased. We will continue to support Chapeau! as a great SF business. For 1st time walk-ins who don't know this restaurant (or a 1st time in any place) & expect a server to "jump," it's best to be polite. Thanks to everyone on 24-12-19 who made our evening pleasant.
We decided to go to Clement and try Chapeau instead of our normal downtown area culinary experience.  We did not have any reservation so we asked the hostess if we can sit at the bar since it looked empty. The hostess said she needed to check the reservation list to see if the bar seats were reserved.  Eventually, she said she can accommodate us. Since we were there early like 5:00pm, the whole place was not busy.  We got all the attention we needed from the bartender. We started with an order of 12 oysters and escargot. There was one oyster that started to go bad and had a smell.  My husband did not realize until he ate it. Fortunately, the rest of the oyster were good. The escargot was good.  Then we had the Landaise and Pork Tenderloin which were outstanding. For dessert, we ordered the profiteroles which was excellent.  Everything was outstanding except for the one bad oyster. Otherwise I would have given them a 5 star. It is quite pricy but a nice place to try.
