A simple place with dated interior, friendly service, frequented by regulars.
A nice little gem, not very expensive and the food has good sized portions and is pretty tasty too! Dim sums are alright, the pepper beef is really nice and I enjoyed the steak tartare. To the owner: you might need to set a direction for the restaurant mixing Chinese and Norwegian food in a restaurant where the name inspires seafood is a tough sell. Also maybe revisit the decoration as it's a bit dated and dark. All this being said: would I go back? YES! Good food, good service and good prices is always a big thumb up in my book
I can't justify a four, but there is no 3.5, so I will go the cautious route. Norwegian and Chinese. An odd combination, but we had some good examples of both here. The prawn and mango spring roll was nice, with large prawns and lots of sesame seeds in the wrapper. It was the fried variety, with the standard spicy plum sauce. It was nicely presented over a bed of field greens. Alden had the duck, which was strips of breast and chunks of leg and thigh served with mushrooms and a berry sauce. The duck was pretty good, not as tender as confit, but the mushrooms were overcooked and a little watery. The berry sauce was decent, but tasted as if it was not made that day. Marilyn had a nice salmon in two large pieces, fresh and very nicely cooked with a crisp outside and tender inside. It was served over a bernaise sauce that was close, but not quite on point. I had reindeer, a generous portion of very tender slices over onions and Brussels sprouts, and a sweet brown sauce I could not identify, along with a large dollup of lingonberry jam. Unfortunately the Brussels sprouts were overcooked, but the meat was perfect, so that's a minor quibble. The wine and beer prices are relatively low, and the room has a jolly feeling to it, especially as it fills up with locals. My suggestion to the management: flash fry Brussels sprouts to order, pan fry mushrooms to order and add them later. See if you can make sauces fresh daily. I like it and we would go back. The price is good for what you get, and we were overall impressed with the atmosphere and quality.
