A pleasant discovery. As a sushi lover and having a free hour in which to have lunch, I choose this small restaurant. I was satisfied in all aspects, the food is perfect, the waitresses very relaxed and kind to the customer, precise with the orders. The environment is very simple, but welcoming, clean and familiar. Very good kitchen and perfectly capable of handling orders. I will happily come back to try the ramen and poke too. Usually sushi restaurants are or too expensive if they are “à la carte” or unpleasant if they are “all you can eat”, but Fujiyama restaurant, situated in Corso Casale 100/A, not far from the centre of Turin, is different: it is a Japanese “all you can eat” restaurant, so the price for a meal is low, but, at the same time, the local is not full of young people and, more important, the quality of the food is next to the top. Three months ago our friend Michela invited me and my brother Federico to experience a different type of restaurant for lunch, an “all you can eat” Japanese restaurant, specialised in sushi. We had never been to a sushi restaurant before and we thought that an oriental restaurant mixed with an “all you can eat” restaurant would be an unpleasant food experience, but it was not. ATMOSPHERE Indeed, as we entered the restaurant, we noticed that the place was different from the other Japanese restaurant style: it was intimate and not full of tables, indeed there were only thirteen tables of medium dimension well distanced; also the typology of clients gave the impression of a high level restaurant: the local was not full of young people that were chatting all together at a high level of voice, creating the typical noise of a canteen, instead the majority of the customer was adult and, obviously, a little part remained constituted by youngs. The typical traditional Japanese restaurant atmosphere was well recreated by using black tiles for the entire flor and the first part of the wall, a line of white oak axes over the slabs and finally a decorated, but, at the same time, sober, wallpaper for the remaining part of the wall and the entire ceiling. SERVICE AND TABLE As we passed through the door, the owner of the local, a Japanese woman, mother of the majority of the waiters, welcomed and accompanied us to our table. My eye immediately fell on the perfect disposition of all the items on the table and the chopsticks, a strange cutlery, composed by two long pieces of wood, that replaced all our typical cutleries. After a short explanation of how to use them, the menu was brought to us. MENU It was well organised and simple to use, also for the people that had never been to a Japanese restaurant before: indeed there was the explanation of all the plates under their typical names and, for the strangest one, there were also some photos (not elegant, but very useful). After a little tribulation about the “all you can eat” system we wrote down, on a block notes sheet that was taken shortly after by the waiter, the numbers of the dishes we had chosen. FOOD After spending the correct time for a discussion, the plates started to arrive. They were sensational: all the hot dishes were perfectly cooked, full of high quality ingredients and at the correct temperature to eat them without get burned; not to mention the sushi that had a very little quantity of rice and an enormous quantity of filling, very strange in an “all you can eat” restaurant, because it is usually the opposite; also this last (the filling) was amazing, because of the freshness and high quality of the fish and the contour. We ate very pleasantly until we were full. PRICES Finally we went to the cash for paying and also here we had an appreciated surprise: the cost of the cover was deducted and, so, we paid individually only the “all you can eat” personal fee of 16 € and 1 € and 60 cents for the drinking, for a total of 17 € and 60 cents per person. RECOMMENDATION In conclusion, if you are looking for somewhere to eat Japanese delicacies in Turin you can not go wrong with Fujiyama restaurant. The atmosphere is authentic, the food excellent and also the prices are fair. Remember only to reserve before and if you go for dinner to consider 6 euros more.
