The cafe/bistro is quaint. The service was very good - although we struggled a little bit with the communication - she was kind and patient enough to deal w me though. There were three options for handbrot (basically it's bread baked with cheese and an additional ingredient). The soup of the day changes, they had radish the day that I was there. All in all, decent place to stop by for a quick bite while strolling around the city center.

With their tiny three tier deck oven up front alongside the irresistible baked goods that just came out of it, this easily missed nook in the old center of Leipzig is the perfect place to stop for a well pulled espresso or perhaps a slice of their cheese, chicken, rhubarb rolls, served steaming and crusty. So many of the neighboring businesses are either chains or simply unimaginative in their traditional preparation. But Handbrotzeit reflects a thoughtful approach and accomplished execution.
