On Friday we got to try Lemongrass for my husband's birthday and for the occasion I made a reservation, and I'm soooo glad we did. When we got there right at 6pm the place was totally packed! Who knew this little Thai place would be so popular. But as soon as I entered, I knew why! First off, this is the sister restaurant to the new Lat14 restaurant, which has already gained a great reputation for their amazing food. Not only that , but the lighting and decor on the walls was very unique and transported me straight to the eastern part of the world. It took us a couple minutes to be seated when we told the desk about our reservations but the waiter was surprisingly attentive considering how busy it was. We got the Pad See Ew, Red Curry, and Pineapple curry. I tried a little bit of everything but I definitely loved the Pineapple curry the best! Soooo much flavor! Curry is always a good idea. I asked to add potatoes (I love potatoes in my curry), and added chicken and the cooks didn't forget anything. The food was the perfect amount of spice and I didn't need a spice rack like I normally do (I love spicy food). Already can't wait to come back here. Only wish it was closer to me!
VEGETARIANS and VEGANS beware. There are other restaurants that don't mislead you into thinking you are ordering vegetarian food. I was planning an event that required vegetarian/vegan food. Had emailed about catering and a few things on my possibilities list were clarified as non-veg, but most were not. Went there to taste the food and while tasty, something tasted seafood like. Rather than make a scene I inquired about it via email, and just got a one line response back that  ALL their curries are made with shrimp. I asked for options that would actually be vegetarian, but received no response. Sadly wasted my time and the $50 I spent on tasting food that didn't meet requirements.  Really horrible customer service experience. Would have been nice if they 1) stated their use of shrimp clearly on the menu online 2) told me in the emails that they really don't do much pure vegetarian food 3) apologized for their oversight/wasting my time or 4) offered me options that would meet my requirements.
Lemon Grass Thai Cuisine is one of the few good Thai restaurants here in the Twin Cities. Overall, their food is somewhat pricey, but you could always tell by the quality of their food that it is worth the money. When you ask for a dish to be mild, papaya salad for example, it is still spicy as hell, because that's just Thai food for ya and that's how you can tell it is good and authentic. When they expanded, there was a bit of a change in the atmosphere which added a warm and welcoming feeling once you entered the restaurant and was great. However, expanding to add a sushi bar was something I felt was unnecessary. The sushi is decent at best and overpriced and really nothing new to get excited about. The service nowadays is a bit slow and just decent at best. The 3 stars is a reflection of that. There's an older, middle aged looking white guy who helps the waiters/waitresses serve food to everyone who's kind of an asshole, especially with bigger parties. And it's not that he's outright mean to you or anything, but he just has a passive-aggressive attitude and makes some rude remarks every now and then, which doesn't make for a pleasant experience in my opinion. Overall, Lemon Grass is still a really good restaurant for Thai food. Don't come here for the sushi though and avoid that one dude. Don't know why you're in the restaurant business if you're gonna have that kind of attitude towards your customers.
