It’s located on Little Bourke street. Getting there isn’t much of a problem. The restaurant in few minutes’ walk from tram stops.
Before I get started on the review, I need to note, reservations are a must. If you go here without a reservation its highly likely you will be turned away and disappointed.
We arrived there in time for our reservation and were showed to our tables. We didn’t want the lower dining tables and asked for another table instead, only because I didn’t want to take my shoes off since it was a cold night. We were given a corner table near the windows, with one of the lights not working. I guess it was punishment for requesting a change of table. The place has a dim ambience and with only one light, it was almost so dark on one side of the table we needed to squint to see our food.
The service is exceptional and must be commended. They were immediately taking our drink orders. We ordered a Mango Soju and a Zucchini pancake. The Soju was mixed to perfection and the pancake was incredible. We ordered three mains after that. A Spicy pork belly, Spicy chicken thigh, and Marinated rib fillet (beef). The hot coals were brought out in 5 minutes of our order. One of the reasons this place stands out from the rest of the competition is their use of charcoal. Also, they cook the meat for you. This is great since I tend to over cook the bbq if it was left to my devices.
The meats were brought out soon after. They were well marinated. The beef went on first, then the chicken and finally the pork belly. The food was amazing! We hardly spoke since we were so busy eating. The meat was juicy, with the right level spice and also had an extra layer of smokiness.
We went through the three mains with ease. The portions are not very big and you have a good appetite on the night, you may need to go for four mains. Not satisfied with what we had, we ordered a Bul Go Gi and polished it off with ease. From the taste, you can tell the meats were prepared with care and dedication!
We were done by 7:25 and then asked politely to leave since we had apparently overstayed our visit. They have a one and a half hour rule per sitting which would have been great if they had told us when we walked in. Considering there are other empty tables around it left us puzzled as to why have such a rule in the first place. Surely there is a reason but it breaks the customer experience at the end especially when we just had a meal for $65 apiece and only finished 5 minutes back.
The place is well ventilated so the smell of the food doesn’t stick to your clothes. The final bill came to $128 which is a bit on the pricey side, but for that BBQ its definitely well worth it.
