Had a really great experience at Morio’s. Was able to get a last minute reservation due to a cancellation. The restaurant is small and felt intimate and friendly, Morio came around to offer some whiskey, and the servers were very attentive and kind, taking the time to explain each course and paid attention to preferences. The food was amazing, cooked to perfection where it was cooked, and the sushi/sashimi were so fresh. It was basically fine dining in a casual setting. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Sometimes, I become too comfortable dining at my favorite restaurants that I close myself to other places in fear of disappointment.  With that type of negative thinking, I deprive myself of many wonderful places to eat. I have my favorite couple spots for authentic Japanese sushi; however, trying Morio's Sushi Bistro opened my options to yet another wonderful world of raw catches. I was happy to receive a call from my sushi partner in crime. She made us reservations for a Friday night sushi at Morio's. Little did I know, she walked in to make a reservation from two months ago and a cancellation was in my good fortune.  Morio's is located off of S. King St., a couple units from Jack in the Box with a free and small parking lot of its own. I was happy to score street parking since our reservations was at 8:30pm. Reservations are only for 6:30pm and 8:30pm seating times. Morio's sushi spot is a humbling abode with 16 seats at maximum. Morio's seats 8 people at the sushi bar and 8 more for tables of 4 each. Omakase or a la carte can be ordered no matter where you sit. Great news, the restaurant is BYOB. My girlfriend's family (16 people to be exact) filled the house and brought plenty of sake and whiskey to go around. I read Sushi Chef Morio likes beer, however, as we popped bottles during dinner, he stated his interest on both beers and sake! Morio's apprentices were friendly, very attentive with waters, and clearing empty plates throughout the night. Morio's restaurant feels like the perfect place to be on a Friday night. The front of the shop looks rather run down however, all the magic is inside of his brick & mortar. Everything about the place felt authentic and cozy. Beware that a filled house can be rather sweaty, so wear something thin, loose and comfortable to stretch into for your omakase courses. While most of us in the party ordered omakase, a few also ordered a la carte. My only advice is if one does not not have a huge appetite, a la carte might be best. If you can eat a lot and want Morio's showcased variety, Omakase is the way to go and it's a lot of fun. Omakase and a la carte prices are affordable for great value and quality. For allergies, please notify Chef Morio for any adjustments. Chef Morio opened our first course with the Hamachi Kama.  This is the collar part of the yellowtail which was deliciously ono with the combination of the soy and the lemon squeezed citrus.  The Chawanmushi tasted delicious with fish roe, mixed eggs and shiitaki. The sashimi with yellowtail, maguro and salmon was perfectly fresh and melts in the mouth. Morio's oysters were delectable and juicy with or without the lemon squeeze. The baby awabe was perfect for sharing a few pieces. The Deep Fried Nabeta is seasonal and was onolicious and great for nibbling and sharing. Kinmedai entered its way into the mesh which was uber tasty. My favorite sea urchin made its entourage from Hokkaido. They were perfectly creamy and buttery after every bite. The maguro nigiri was just as delectable as the meaty amaebi nigiri. It seems customary to save the king of all fish to be served last.  Chef Morio served the Otoro nigiri to finish off the sushi course. Whenever I eat one of those it always melts in my mouth and gives me shivers down my spine. Yes it is that special. On the 12th course, we were given immensely delicious Amaebi miso soup. The miso soup was truly appetizing. Cheesecakes and tea closed our omakase. Morio and his apprentices worked perfectly in sync with each other. The style of sushi served is more traditional which I also have a deep appreciation for. Chef Morio's style is exciting, fun and filled with flavor and humor.  Be ready to serve him lots of sake and beers with lots of laughs throughout the night. Morio's is now added to one of my places of favorite spots for traditional sushi. Gochisousama and arigatou gozaimasu to Chef Morio and staff! See you again soon!
