Decided to finally try out O'kims this past weekend and honestly, I'm not sure what took me so long to do so! We went on a saturday afternoon around 12:15 and were please to notice that there was a bunch of open seating. We decided to take a seat near the window and enjoy our lunch! Location: Located at the old Kan Zaman location (RIP!!!!!!) I would recommend trying to first find street parking. If you don't get lucky, there are a bunch of pretty cheap municipal parking lots scattered around downtown/chinatown. Service: Margarita (hope that's how you spell her name!) was the only waitress working and she was great! We were seated upon entrance and she quickly gave us menus and took our drink order. It started to fill up while we were there but I noticed that she still took the time to make sure everyone was doing okay. Food: BYOB! Or if you are as forgetful as I am you can always enjoy one of their specialty mocktails. I had the Strawberry mojito and my friend had the yuzu lemonade. Priced under $5 these drinks were a huge hit! Would definitely recommend a mocktail. As for the food, I was supper excited to try the purple rice but was a little let down because of how bland it tasted. Other than that (I ordered the Korean chicken and gnocchi) everything was delicious! I'm particularly obsessed with the kim chee, anyone know if they sell it by the pound?! All in all I had a nice experience at O'Kims! Next time I will be sure to choose outdoor seating (I hear the patio in the back is adorable!) and the seaweed salmon!
We came here for lunch last week and were seated in the nice outdoor space in back. Great casual atmosphere and the staff was friendly. The best part was the amazingly delicious food! It was a more contemporary take on traditional Korean dishes and not something you're likely to find anywhere else. We tried the shrimp and pork gyozas for appetizer, and the kalbi steak and Korean chicken gnocchi for lunch, with pecan pie and vanilla ice cream to top it off. The flavors were well balanced and it also seemed somewhat healthy as there is lots of veggies and color on your plate. I will definitely be going back to try the other things on the menu. It was quite busy during lunch so I would suggest making a reservation.
Walking around trying to find a place for dinner - i ran into this Small Korean place. Had the garbanzo vegan curry - comes w purple rice and side salad. Not expecting anything - wow - so flavorful and rich. I will come back again for lunch!
