This place is the reason 5 stars isn't enough. Omg. So good! I only had time for the Mushroom Katsu but I will be back. If this was the only place I eat for ever, that would be fine.
This popular offshoot of The Pig and the Lady in Chinatown is one of my favorite places to have brunch. I came here with my friend visiting from San Francisco and had a lovely experience. The service is efficient and friendly, and although the food is on the pricey side for this very casual ambience, it's a great place to bring visitors for a nice meal. We sat down and ordered a Miso Bloody Mary. I can't say this was a very good Bloody Mary, I couldn't taste any miso and the drink was very watery. I'd definitely pass on this next time. Before I start describing the food, I'd also like to mention that the hard wooden seats are not comfortable at all. I seriously am considering bringing a cushion to sit on during my next visit. I don't understand how anyone could sit here for more than an hour..... or maybe that's how it was planned..... The main reason I go out to eat is the food, so this is what we ordered: we started out with appetizers of salted chocolate tahini served with pita chips, and Laotian Fried Chicken. To be brutally honest, the salted chocolate spread tasted like melted, coagulated chocolate. I didn't taste any maldon salt or any other flavor. We only ate one of these and quickly lost interest. The LFC chicken though - this was excellent. Just the right amount of salt, spice, and so crispy crunchy that I couldn't stop eating these. This is a must have when you eat here. My friend ordered the Saison Pancakes and I had the Vegan Pho. She really enjoyed her pancakes, and I loved the pho. The broth was very flavorful, with different vegetables on top and instead of the usual thin pho noodles, these were on the thicker side. A side of fresh herbs would make this a perfect dish. Dessert was cola/cherry swirled frozen custard, which I had with coffee. All in all, a few hits, a few misses, but an overall good meal.
