Unbelievable that the excellent staff here are being laid off as the site is being sold and the cafe closing before Easter. Stopped here for break heading south and had hoped to stop on our way back north. Food and drinks were excellent. Good luck to the staff in their quest for new employment. Sad to hear the place is closing, a big loss for the Leithfield community. Please give this place some support and visit it before it closes on Sunday, it's a good place.

Nice coffee but very unhelpful staff. In December, we were biking from Amberley to Christchurch with our children on a very wet day. Our route took us across a dry ford on the Kowai River, which lead us, by chance, to Pukeko Junction Cafe. At this point we were lost and needed help to get to Kaiapoi safely without cycling on State Highway 1. So we decided to get some drinks from the cafe and ask for help. After ordering our coffees, we asked if anyone could help us. Never have we received such a short curt 'No!' The counter staff and kitchen staff all said a firm no in unison. Distressed, we went outside to wait for our drinks and continued to search for answers on google. When the young woman came to deliver them, we once again tried to explain that we were lost and asked if there was anyone that might be able to help us. She told us no one lived here and no one could help us. We asked if perhaps they had a regular customer who was local and might be willing to help us if she asked them. No, she wouldn't do that. In the end, she told us to go and talk to the lady in the business next door. We accept that it's possible that no one knew anything about the area where they worked. We might accept that they don't have regular customers that live locally. But it was the manor in which they shut us down and showed no interest in trying to help that we found most disturbing. We cycled around the South Island for 10 weeks and often needed help from locals. Even if they couldn't help us, most people were kind and sympathetic. This was the only time we were treated so rudely. A very unfortunate experience, for sure.

Hi Kersti, Thank you you liked our coffee. Regarding your querry regarding safe cycling route towards kaiapoi or christchirch i have checked with paricular staff. She has mentioned that she was with you for a while trying to help you out. Everyone knows road towards kaiapoi or christchurch even if you dont reside locally. You wanted to know safe cycling route ( not the normal route). You would need to understand fact - cycling routes are not common. You donthave knowledge unless you actually cycle, even if you are local. Staff you engaged lives in kaiapoi. Sometimes it is better to say NO than providing wrong or unsafe advise as you wanted a SAFTER route. Regarding engaging other customers we are in traffic light system so we are advised by govenment to keep all customers as away as possible. All we are doing is following government guidelines. These are tough times for everyone & hope you will understand.
