Memorable.
It was a very stressful evening! Made a reservation for 20:00. Got text messages galore asking if we would attend, I appreciate that they need to know. However we were asked to arrive 30 minutes earlier to accommodate their kitchen. No probs. But the woman who greeted us was so aggressive and fake it was so unpleasant. Turns out she is the wife of the owner, so one could not complain that she made us uncomfortable. When we asked questions about the menu she seemed uninformed or not interested in actually helping us negotiate the limited menu, which we only got in English. I speak French. And they all seemed to insist on English unless you were native. Irrespective of my language prowess or lack thereof, it was demeaning and wholly unwelcoming. The food was ok. The ravioli was a heavy pasta. The lobster and fois gras an interesting melange. But it was mediocre. The amuse bouche was really good, a mushroom soup, excellent. They were keen to make as much money as they could in a short time, I over ordered and couldn't enjoy my main as the starter was so rich. Rather than advising intelligently they appeared rushed and stressed and didn't seem to care! And when we wanted to leave, we had to beg for our bill 4 x... Which really said everything about this place. There are thousands of restaurants in Paris. Please find something more exciting and innovative! This is not that place.
We just had dinner here this evening. The food was incredible. The service was outstanding. We had the Signature Menu so we could have the lobster ravioli I have read so much about. They respected our wine selection... a delightful Sancerre. Dinner began with a special offering of 3 delightful cheese based hors d'oeuvres and and additional starter, a light quenelle. Followed by the lobster (with foie gras) ravioli which was better than the reviews. We selected the duck plat with vegetables and a lovely citrusy sauce. I am not generally a duck fan...but I am now! Then followed the "rest" of the duck dish a delicious offering with duck and figs. Next to arrive was was the cheese course which was offered with a very nice Sauternes. Dessert was the magnificent Mille-feuille which was incredibly flaky with divine vanilla cream. We passed on coffee but they still delivered a small plate of petit fours including a marvelous petite cream puff. If I am ever I. Paris again we will be back. The food and experience was worth every euro and not the amount I had budgeted for. Merci Relais Louis XIII for a wonderful meal!
