We really loved Happy Hour Chili Hamachi, Mini sushi tacos, Soft Shell Crab Tempura and Tuna Foie Gras. ALL AMAZING!! Uchi competitor for sure.
Another great meal. Given that I've been to both locations in the span of a week, I clearly love it. Andy, the owner is the consummate host and makes everyone feel welcome. Kudos to such a well managed and delicious restaurant.
Soto South Lamar is an upscale version of Soto Cedar Park but without the taste. We were happy to be able to walk into Soto South Lamar without a reservation as we couldn't get into Uchiko. We were seated at a booth where the seats hadn't been wiped well. The course started with an amuse-bouche of edamame mousse which tasted like seasoned baby food. Ma bouche n'etait pas amusee. They offered gluten free tamari sauce upon request. The chu toro nigiri and sake were the best course of the evening. It went downhill from there. The courses were served way too slow. For $10, the foie gras nigiri was overcooked, compared to Uchi, Uchiko, Hell's Kitchen and Atelier Crenn. It wasn't as fatty nor did it melt in my mouth. The miso soup portion was small, but decent. We ordered two wagyu beef maki rolls which were both oversalted and stuffed with too much arugula. They tasted more like oversalted Korean barbecue lettuce wraps than maki rolls. The seared moulard duck breast was also overcooked and oversalted. The duck meat was tough. The bill came to $200 plus tip for four people. For that price, you can eat better food at Uchiko happy hour. Perhaps they should serve an exclusive menu of raw fish so they can't overcook or oversalt it. My husband, sister in law, and her boyfriend walked over to Shake Shack afterwards and ate a burger. My mouth tasted like it had been salt gargled. I went home afterwards and ate steak. The next time we can't get into Uchiko, we're going back to Eurasia.
