Highlights: the ambiance, the chive butter brioche buns, the petite Italian meatballs, and the desserts--we had the pumpkin creme brûlée and the cookie skillet. Overall, we enjoyed our experience there, but it didn't blow me out of the water. I think my expectations were probably too high, but for the price, I thought it would be incredible, not just good. Some minor critiques: our waitress was a little slow and passive aggressive. Also, the entrees were definitely on the saltier side. Not inedible, just too salty for my taste. Would come back, but probably try different dishes next time!
Again...friend made reservations 2 months in advance for 5pm on a Thursday for 4 people. It was a cute dining room but small. If you don't like cramped spaces while dining, not sure this place is for you. Had a spicy margarita and am happy to say that it delivered. It was a well-balanced spicy drink, which I enjoyed several of! What was good: *petite Italian meatballs were very good and a nice appetizer. nice size for our table of 4. *sea bass were a nice size portion and cooked perfect with a crispy skin. couscous was ok but I was not able to put my finger on the specific spice that was used and I was just "ok" about it being there. *fried brussels were done with bacon and were divine. Had some to bring home that I ate cold for breakfast (don't judge me) What was ok or not what I anticipated: *beets and ricotta - had my heart set on this as I am a beet lover through and through. Was disappointed at the dish being served VERY cold. I was expecting warm beets mixed with partially melted ricotta coating the little pieces of purple loveliness. The temperature changed the taste and texture for me and I was sad. *little sugar donuts - did not anticipating them being stuffed with the white chocolate mousse, as the description on the menu could be taken either way (as stuffed or as a dipping sauce). I have one bite and didn't go back for me. Just didn't like them. Which again...made me slightly sad. Was glad I went and will try them for brunch soon.
I chose Talula's Garden to really get a beautiful experience with my SO. The service was impeccable - top notch service where the waitress went above and beyond. Kept waters refilled, was constantly on the lookout for any issues, and really brightened the mood to make the experience that much more enjoyable. When we arrived I originally wanted to sit outside because it was beautiful. Their garden area is very dimly lit but it's extremely romantic . I had reservations at around 8:30 PM but was late due to parking issues. We sat around 9 PM and they close at 10 PM. The garden was very packed - and this was an hour before they closed. We sat outside but then moved inside because it was too humid - it also rained at 9:30 PM so the garden was not a good choice. My SO got the spaghetti with crab and I got the roasted duck breast. Both items were very delicious one negative I would say is the portion sizes are definitely on the smaller side. The duck was cooked to what I requested and the sauce made sense - however the sauce had a resemblance to BBQ sauce and I felt like they could do better. It's definitely more complex than BBQ but it had that same type of flavoring. Duck was very soft and tender, not dry at all. Presentation wise I really enjoyed it -everything was thought out and made sense. We ordered the cookie in cast iron skillet to share between us. It's on the smaller side but honestly it's quite the perfect size due to how rich it is. It's super rich and flavorful and the ice cream was also dense. I really liked this dessert and will probably get it again when I go back. It's not too sweet which is a good thing because sometimes they overload cookies with sugar and this was not the case - the was a nice variance between the chocolate, cookie dough and sugar content. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with this place. The service really was the star of the show. I would come back only for that. Overall pricing I spent about $70-85 on two entrees and a dessert.
