And this experience illustrates why I ate the rest of my meals in the Great Court food hall! One night "off" (with colleagues) in the middle of the week so we decided to go out for dinner. We have a pretty limited expenses policy, so knew we couldn't claim back for anything even remotely expensive. We decided to go for a stroll by the water, and one colleague said she'd seen "a load of really good looking places near some of the piers." So we headed that way, and after an hour of walking, were all starting to get pretty hungry and a bit crabby. We looked at a few places which were clearly bars or fast-food restaurants, and finally came to Watermark. They made a bit of a fuss about the fact that we didn't have a reservation, despite not being anywhere near full. We sat down and I was pleased there were several vegetarian options marked with a big green V. I ended up getting a Cesar salad and fries, and my colleagues all got either steak or fish. My salad came out after all their meat dishes, and of course it had bacon on it. I don't even know where that came from-- anchovies, yes, but bacon? I had pointed to the V, and asked if it was vegetarian when I ordered, and they said yes, so I was pretty frustrated (and hungry) at this point. Took a good 10 minutes for a replacement, while I was gnawing off my arm. It came, and was OK, fries were OK but nothing special. That plus one glass of wine cost me the equivalent of £45, most of which can't be claimed back, so that was a pretty painful one. Colleagues said meat dishes were decent but way overpriced. Oh, and don't think you can see the 8pm light show from here, because you can't, unfortunately!

On a Sunday afternoon around 12:00 p.m. we came here for the Sunday Brunch Menu. A very relaxing location as it is surrounded by glass walls to enjoy the view of the harbour. On to the food...With a all you can eat seafood brunch menu: the seafood consists of sashimi sushi (salmon and other), cooked muscles, fresh oysters, King Crab legs, and cooked, but cold, shrimps. You can eat till your hearts content. The seafood is fresh and really satisfying. They had various choices on the salad table, such as potato salad, greek salad, and smoked salmon, and the regular greens and your choice of various toppings (olives, cherry tomatos, etc.) On the hot menu, they had pumpkin soup, steak, dim sum, eggs benedict, and 5-6 other hot dishes you can choose from. I can't remember what they were because they didn't look good enough to eat. I do remember not liking any of the hot foods I tasted for various reasons, but mostly because it just tasted bad!!! The dessert table had COLD, OLD churros, various chocolate pieces, a chocolate fountain, and 4 types of Hagen-daz ice cream. The ice cream was looking a bit old and looked like it wasn't taken care of in storage, as there were icicles on the surface of the ice cream. I guess the best thing you could have is the bit size chocolate brownies. So bottom line.... you get mediocre hot food and dessert for $399HKD per adult. But if you're ok with just having the fresh seafood then it's ok. But all the HOT dishes and the dessert table can be thrown out and replaced with better tasting and quality foods. Probably wouldn't come back.

We went to Watermark for New Year's Eve 2015. I'm not sure how indicative it was of a normal meal/night at Watermark, but we enjoyed it. They presented a six-course set menu with some really diverse and unique plates. There was a scallop dish, a tuna ceviche, a tomato bisque and a Wagyu steak for the main course. All really well prepared and presented. Of all the restaurants my wife and I have gone to in HK, this was the first time I saw her give the wide eyes- mouth drop expression when the bill came. Again, I hope this was just NYE gouging, otherwise I could never say Watermark delivers a bit of value for what they serve- no matter how good it was.
