Holy juicy burger Batman! I was staying downtown and stumbled across Werewolf in Gaslamp for dinner. Werewolf has a weird ambience and odd lighting, but in a comforting sort of way. I came in hungry and was overwhelmed by the menu because everything sounded fantastic. With some help from the staff, I went with the mushroom melt. The patty was perfectly cooked and juicy, the bun was buttery and fluffy, the cheese perfectly matched with the mushrooms and aioli. A truly mouthwatering burger, served with some crispy fries. Really amazing burger, I'd say best burger in downtown for sure. And that includes hodads.
Champagne bottle for $12 for the win! Homer cakes sooo good and the pork belly Benedict delicious!
Belated review, but this was one of the best meals I had had during my trip to San Diego. We were lucky to have walked in late Monday morning so the pub was mostly empty. Our waitress Alex made our day - we had never had a waiter/waitress ask for our names before. She was such a delight; I would go back just for her. We ordered the following: 1. Breakfast Balls - Hush puppies with bacon crumbles and gravy. I can't remember the last time I had hush puppies but the flavor of these babies were legit. 2. Pork Belly Benedict - Get this. Just do it. I'm not a big fan of english muffins so I was happy with the potato cakes. The dish was not only delicious but also SO fragrant!!! It took me longer than I'm proud of to realize that it was from the maple glaze. 3. Biscuits and Gravy - Solid. Personally, I love to see my biscuits swimming in meaty gravy, but these two sat on a bed of breakfast potatoes and were topped with just enough sausage country gravy. The flavor was true, and the portion was huge. Real dope pub with unexpectedly good food. The music was all over the place - what music video you see playing on the big-screen TV is what you get, which we found quite amusing. The check came in a cassette case. 'Nuff said. Really happy that we made it to this place during our short visit.
