Came here from all the Instagram posts. As predicted there was quite a long wait, granted it was a Saturday night. The thing that stood out to me the most was the customer service—it was very good! The cashier/server was very attentive and service was swift. The udon noodles were very good but I think I had set my expectations a bit too high from the social media hype, which is why I am giving this place 4 stars. Broth is super flavorful but I think the general spice-level could be higher. The noodles themselves had that really fresh/homemade bounciness and mouthfeel which I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall I am glad I tried this spot and happy to see that business is good! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Dream Udon has always been a famous Japanese udon restaurant in Boston. It is located on the corner of the first floor of Lesley University, about 20 minutes walk from Harvard. During meal time, besides his house, there is a huge queue at the izakaya Ittoku next door. Although I live far away, I miss Spicy Cold Niku Udon here every now and then, no matter whether it is winter or summer. The Japanese chef here probably borrowed some seasonings from Chinese pasta, and the taste is very in line with Chinese tastes. Spicy Cold Niku Udon is also one of the most signature noodles here. After the noodles are cooked, pour them into ice water and place them inside. The soup base has a light juice + Japanese sweet soy sauce flavor, sweet and salty but not greasy. The traditional strong Japanese dashi flavor is not used, probably to cater to the tastes of more customers. The beef is delicious, sweet and refreshing, not too old or too tender. Topped with shrimp skin, crackers, chives and chili oil. The chili oil is almost not spicy, and has more of a fresh fragrance like Chaoshan chili oil. Optionally add soft-boiled eggs. Just mix it like this, it's really fragrant. The hot udon is a bit mediocre in comparison, and it becomes more greasy after being heated. Overall, this is one of the few restaurants that I will miss in Boston. It is the comfort food that I go to when I am tired of going to school. It is also a small restaurant that I will eat at for my friends who come to Boston. Although the attitude of some staff is not so good, the taste is indeed the best. I have been recommended Yume Ga Arukara by many people and finally had the chance to try it out this weekend. It is definitely worth the trip to Porter Sq! Yume Ga Arukara is one of the stalls of the food court that is tucked away in a Lesley University building. We arrived around 5:30PM on a Saturday and found the place to be decently busy already. We had to place our orders first before we were able to be seated. The place only sits maybe 15 people at a time so we had to wait a while for our table. The line got very long very fast, so I would recommend coming during off hours if you do not want to wait. We were super excited to eat as the place smelled amazing from what others were having. We chose to order the Hot Niku Udon and the Spicy Hot Niku Udon. Both options were delicious! Hot, chewy noodles in a deep-flavored broth that was enhanced by the crunchy texture of the tempura crumbs. The staff from the place will rate you and give you either a "good job" or a "perfect" based on how much you can finish, so we both strived and achieved a "perfect" . We had a great experience with the food but we did wish that there were more seating, which will help decrease the wait time to get seated and also allow you to enjoy your time there for longer. Our plates were collected almost immediately after we finished eating so that they were able to seat another party after us, and we would've liked some more time to sit and digest. Additionally, we had to pay for water, which was $2 per bottle, and we were caught off guard by that. However, we will definitely return in the future to try their cold udon dishes!
