Piran, a beautiful peninsula town, is located on the picturesque coast in the Slovenian Adriatic. This city, full of winding narrow alleys, Venetian Gothic and world-class restaurants, is a real gem among other resort destinations in Europe. Piran is famous worldwide for its salt, which is highly valued among chefs for its unique texture and taste. The local salt makers are still using traditional methods of salt mining, originated in the 14th century, and play a prominent role in the country’s economy. Don’t miss a chance to visit one of the Salt festivals, held in Piran several times a year, with the other local products performed there. Besides, many of the Piran’s hotels offer their guests day spa services with hot mineral water baths, saunas, massage, and beauty therapy. Together with a pleasant Mediterranean climate, excellent service and local organic food, Piran is a near-perfect vacation destination for those who are looking for a mental reboot and rejuvenating effect!

Caffe Neptun
#1 of 68 cafes in Piran, Slovenia
kosovelova 4, Piran, Slovenia, 6330
Open until 11PM

This small coffee shop & bar is located on the seashore of Piran, away from overcrowded places. With its open terrace overlooking the sea and serving the best arabica coffee in the town, Caffe Neptun is undervalued because of its hidden location at the entry of the harbor. Yet, the real caffeine lovers always manage to find it and share excellent reviews with the others. Apart from outstanding coffee, the restaurant also serves fresh smoothies and milkshakes, homemade yogurt and toasts, and local alcohol — gin, craft beer from Piran’s breweries, tonic, and wine of highest quality.

From the terrace one can see a spectacular sunset with a view on the Bay of Piran and feel the refreshing breeze from the sea. The nautical interior is beach and sea-inspired, and full of such details as decorative anchors, steering wheels, yachts, and sailboats. The wooden tables and chairs as well as solid wood flooring remind of the saloon on a pirate schooner. Come here for strong delicious coffee or fresh pressed juice accompanying a shot of piney gin — the friendly staff welcomes everyone at this cozy, atmospheric bar!

Kare-kare
Kare-kare

It's a classic slow-cook stew that originated in the Philippines. It's cooked with simmered oxtail, ox tripe, vegetables and thick savoury peanut-based sauce. Kare-kare is named after the curry dish, however, the taste differs from Indian curry.

This bar is perfect for having a cold beer at their open terrace and people-gazing in the middle of a hot day! Located on the Piran’s beachwalk, 10 meters away from the sea, Cafinho is always busy with tourists from all over the globe. They are attracted by its democratic prices and fast serving, gorgeous view of the harbor and nice soft rock music playing all day long. Apart from beer and alcohol, you’ll find vegan and meat bowls, fresh salads, Italian pizza and all kinds of snacks — for example, tuna and avocado toasts which go perfectly with kare-kare stew.

The interior is designed in dark chocolate colors, and the wooden terrace is decorated with ambient lights in the evenings. Don’t pass by this place — it’s a must-visit spot for a sundowner party in the lounge zone and grooving to music with friends and strangers after sunset!

Polenta
Polenta

A dish made from cornmeal, which in most cases resembles a porridge. Polenta is eaten as a side dish or as an independent dish with various additives (mushrooms, meat, anchovies, etc.), in a fried or baked form.

This restaurant will be a sweet reminder for those who are missing their Italian vacations with lunches right on the street. Fritolin pri Cantini is located at May Day Square, surrounded by shabby-chic buildings, with wooden tables placed on faded paving stones. Though it is far from the seashore, the location of the cafe is absolutely amazing!

The terrace is facing an elegant white marble statue and decorated with colourful plants and flowers. The dappled light coming on the tables through grapevines adds a romantic touch to the vibe. The waiters, dressed in white aprons, will treat you to the freshest seafood and pasta, mussels and light local wine. Be sure to try their signature dishes — tuna steak with fried polenta, and a big platter of squids with cheese and fries. The restaurant is always full of tourists, chilling during siesta in the shadow of a grapevine, with a glass of cold white wine or espresso. Time flies so fast on this square, and you won’t regret having spent it here.

Restavracija Neptun
#7 of 144 restaurants in Piran, Slovenia
Župančičeva ulica 7, Piran, Slovenia
Closed until tomorrow

There may be other restaurants serving fine seafood in Piran, but this one is absolutely outstanding. The Neptun Restaurant is family run and the owners, the father and the son, even make Italian pasta on their own. They also have been serving the freshest fish for over 25 years and are absolutely incomparable in preparing their signature sea plates. Take the homemade Istrian fuži pasta with fresh truffles and linguine with seafood as a starter, and top-quality risotto with a lobster as a side dish. The restaurant has a wide selection of wines, including orange and organic ones.

The restaurant Neptun is praised by the customers for extremely polite and friendly staff, and fast serving with a smile even during rush hours. Besides, the interior looks stylish too, with its starched classic tablecloths and wooden tables on the pavement. The restaurant is located on the second line from the sea, on a lovely narrow street with medieval buildings, beautifully illuminated in the evenings. Book a table here for a romantic date and unforgettable family dinner, which you are sure to have again.

Crème brûlée
Crème brûlée

This very gentle vanilla flavored dessert is made with a rich custard base. It is usually topped with a layer of hard caramel and may be decorated with berries. Crème brûlée is served at room temperature.

Santa Lucia, the most famous pizzeria in the Municipality of Piran, is located within a 15-minute walk from Obala Aquapark. This restaurant is really huge, with around 100 seats inside and the same quantity outside, that’s why you are sure to find a table there even during a high season. Santa Lucia serves all kinds of pizza and spaghetti, steaks and fresh local fish, homemade ravioli, colorful desserts — chocolate souffle with strawberry puree or creme brûlée with mango — and other highlights from classic Mediterranean cuisine.

The restaurant is popular among locals too, that's why the prices are not artificially high, as it usually happens in the resort cities. The vegetarians will also highly rate this place for Italian pizza made with gluten-free dough with optional vegan cheese. Santa Lucia is a two-floored restaurant with a big seating capacity, welcoming large groups of friends and tourists. The first floor is designed classically, with dark wooden walls and milky-white velvet armchairs. The second one is decorated in the marine style, with bright yellow tablecloths, blue walls and green plants all around. You will love this pizzeria for their wide food selection, friendly serving and beautiful plating!
