I've had tons and tons of bbq, including kbbq in Korea, multiple shabu shabus, etc., ever since I was a kid. There's something about this place, however, that is nothing short of magical and genuinely sets it apart for me. I don't know how to describe it - the marinated beef is like bulgogi but 3x better. And the soup is so so good!! Soup, rice, sweet potato porridge, green onions, and butter are all free. Tea is also provided free of charge. Prices are extremely reasonable, especially with a 15% discount for lunch. Do yourself a favor and don't sleep on this living legacy!

Been coming here for years, never fails, used to fault the staff for lack of service, but now I just do everything myself and can't complain about the price. Eating out these days seems to cost at least an arm and leg, but prices are very reasonable here. Only place I know of where you can get both bbq and shabu done at the same time!

Today's visit to Cocary Shabu Shabu BBQ in Monterey Park was an absolute delight! As an Asian fusion restaurant, it offers a unique twist to the traditional Japanese shabu shabu experience by incorporating a sizzling BBQ griddle surrounding the flavorful boiling pot of broth. If you're new to this version of shabu shabu, the friendly and attentive waitresses are more than happy to give you some helpful hints before letting you embark on your own culinary adventure. Walking into the restaurant felt like stepping back in time to 1984, with its nostalgic decor and matching waitress uniforms. The ambiance created a lived-in atmosphere, perfect for a casual and enjoyable dining experience. As for the food, the self-serve system truly allows you to be adventurous. You get to gather your desired meats, seafood, vegetables, and even desserts from the refrigerators. The handy plate caddies provided make it easy to carry your choices to your table, where the broth and griddle await. Cooking the thinly sliced meats and vegetables was a breeze, thanks to the helpful tips I learned from online videos. The process was quick and straightforward, ensuring I didn't have to wait long to savor the delicious flavors. I must say, the lamb was an absolute standout - tender and full of rich taste. While I gave the peel and eat shrimp a shot, it wasn't my personal favorite, but taste preferences vary, of course. The restaurant generously offers complimentary rice, making it a wholesome and satisfying meal. Be prepared for a light steam facial, though, as the boiling pot and sizzling griddle sit right in the middle of your table. I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable pricing, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Cocary Shabu Shabu BBQ feels like comfort food at its finest, and I can see why it's a local favorite. The fact that it wasn't too busy at noon on a Sunday was an added bonus, and ample parking in the back made the visit even more convenient. All said, I had a fantastic time at Cocary Shabu Shabu BBQ, and it's definitely a place I'll be returning to. If you're in the mood for a comforting and delicious Asian fusion dining experience, look no further than this gem in Monterey Park. Highly recommended!
