Showed up on a Saturday evening for a Good Heroin comedy show and it was my first time at this book store. It's a smallish shop but it has a large collection of books. There's a coffee bar where you can get some pastries, a few food bites and beer and wine. I didn't try any food since the kitchen was closed when I got there at 6pm so don't know what time it closes. I asked for a glass of red wine and they only had one kind and it was $12 for what tasted like horrible boxed wine. The prices of books, imo, are what you can expect from a small book store and although I love to support small businesses, I would rather buy books much cheaper online or somewhere else. The comedy show was ok for a free show. They had it in the patio in the back and it was a cold night but luckily I brought a jacket. The comedians, some of them were funny, one of them hilarious and the others mediocre but it was a free show so it was ok and something to do. I hope they serve better wine in the future. I don't mind paying $15-20 for a glass of wine but it better be some quality wine not cough medicine.

This little bookstore/cafe in Echo Park is the kind of overstuffed place I love! Lots of books, good lattes and tables outside to chill. Eclectic crowd and not too many hipsters. I will visit again when I am back on the east side of LA!

Stories Books and Cafe is Echo Park's stalwart source of quality books, coffee, wine and food. They sell general interest new and used books with a focus on literary fiction, music, poetry and the arts. It was my first time that I delve into this bookstore. It has a quaint interior and vibe; I like the smell of their books. As you enter you’ll meet this old curly gray haired lady staff overseeing the store. She’s like the great custodian of Gondor seeing and knowing all things. You’ll easily notice their limited tables and chairs to read and drink coffee or tea. On Weekends, the store tends to get really busy, crowded and cramped like you’re in a flea market. I like that this bookstore has a coffee bar inside just like Barnes & Noble. Overall, it’s a nice little quaint bookstore.
