My friends and I always have our birthday celebrations at The Bird. The food and service is always spot on. But tonight was even better. Our server was Josh. He was delightful. Thanks for making my 60th birthday very special xx Price per person: £60–70 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Black Pudding Starter

We were never offered water for the table. We were asked what we wanted to drink after only just sitting down and not having time to look at the wine menu. The starters were good but the mains were very poor. The cod casserole was not wholesome but very wishy-washy. As for the cheese and onion pie? Over baked so the pastry was very dry and the filling was virtually non existent. I had a pint of beer and when the waitress took the empty glass away I wasn't asked if I'd like another one !! Too top it the bill includes a 10% service charge which you're obliged to pay regardless of whether or not you're happy with the service . It should be upto customer discretion whether they pay a tip or service charge. Not an obligation. I've been coming here for a good few years having previously going to Nutters in Norden. The food and service standards there were far superior there and a couple of years ago were very good at the Bird at Birtle. However, we've visited 3 times this year and each time has got increasingly disappointing. I'm afraid we won't be returning again which is a real shame cos the place itself is really pleasant. The food and service? No Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4
