Volveremos!!

Appalling Treatment of staff by owner Sam Henley:I worked at Baltic Bakehouse for 7 months as front of house staff, showed up to every shift on time (was never more than 5 minutes late, just a couple of times), covered often when people were off so the shop was able to stay open, worked hard, and gave friendly customer service. All for minimum wage.On my last shift, Sam (the owner) came into the bakehouse in the morning, everything was as usual. He left, then came back again at the end of the day. He sat around waiting for me to finish cleaning everything. When I was done and ready to go home, he told me he didn't want me to come back, because I 'spend too much time sat on the steps reading my book.' I had received no warning, the decision was made and I had lost the job.I worked very hard during my time here, and sat down only for a few minutes at a time after busy hours, (when work was completed) to have a short rest. The staff work 7.5 hr shifts, and are not given any break, despite being legally entitled to a 20 minute break.I think this could well be sexism, given the striking inconsistencies between the treatment towards me and the male staff, in regards to what some male staff have been previously able to get away with, and the treatment I received.A few weeks prior to losing the job, I saw a job being advertised for my hours on the Instagram page. I asked Sam about this and he didn't tell me that I was being replaced. Instead, he had me train the new member of staff to do my job so that (unbeknownst to me at the time) she could replace me and I could be discarded!I always acted respectably around Sam. People often did not treat him well and I believe he projects this bitterness onto those around him. For whatever reason he took a disliking to me and so searched for any reason he could think of to discard me. Had this genuinely been about my performance, I would have received a warning of some sort.I had countless unpleasant interactions with Sam during my time working there but stayed because of money, and the other front of house staff, chefs and bakers are absolutely lovely.I hope that Sam can heal the bitterness within himself so that he's able to treat those around him with basic respect.
