Dueling pianos was spectacular, 5 stars. 0 stars for the audience, why do people here ignore amazing live music to chat or scroll on their phones? Go to McDonald’s if you can’t appreciate culture. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

Sometimes it’s not just the food that makes a place memorable. We dropped into 1876 for lunch and were literally the first customers through the door. From the moment we walked in, the team set the tone for a great experience. A special shoutout to the young guy who looked after us at the start of service. He was heading into his birthday weekend, but still brought such a good vibe to the shift. Friendly, attentive, relaxed and genuinely welcoming. He absolutely held it down and made the whole experience feel easy from the start. We also had a great chat with one of the managers, who had a bit of a George Clooney vibe about him. After hearing we were visiting from Australia, well, Wānaka, he took the time to talk with us about the event and made us feel right at home. Food-wise, the Katsu Chicken Parmi was the standout. Crispy chicken topped with katsu sauce and melted cheese, served with kewpie slaw and fries. A clever twist on a pub classic and packed with flavour. The Karaage Chicken Burger was another winner. Juicy chicken, fresh slaw and a combination of sauces that brought just the right amount of sweetness and spice. For the table, we shared the prawn toast, sticky honey chicken bites and cheeseburger spring rolls. The prawn toast was crispy and moreish, the chicken bites disappeared quickly, and the spring rolls were a fun surprise. Great food, great service and genuine hospitality. The team made the whole lunch feel welcoming from the second we walked in. Definitely worth a visit next time you’re in Queenstown. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
