I've just finished a 2 night stay with my 12 month old and I wouldn't recommend it for a stay, especially if you also have a baby or toddler. The pros were the rooms are pretty spacious, it's in a very convenient location, and the views from the 5th floor restaurant/ bar are lovely overlooking the race course. Some of the staff were also very nice. The air con in the rooms was also good in this heat. Issue wise in the room, the baby's crib was so uncomfortable it wasn't usable and he ended up in the bed with me for 2 nights. Lucky on arrival he dropped a toy in the crib and it thudded. One of the padded wooden slats was upside down under the sheet, meaning the hard wood was exposed where his head would've been and I couldn't see this. More care should be taken when making up the crib. We also had no conditioner in the bathroom, the body wash pump was broken, and so was the loo roll holder so it kept falling off which was not ideal. It was also pretty dusty through the room. I think a bit of attention to detail and the included amenities would go a long way. When the room was cleaned the first day, our dirty mugs and glasses are just put back where they were, even with leftover tea in which was odd considering they replaced the tea bags we'd used. Breakfast was frustrating for us. We paid to have breakfast included but it was just light bites and cereal/ fruit. You can then upgrade to cooked breakfast it turns out, but it feels like poor value. First morning we weren't given a high chair for the baby and had to ask for it. Second morning we had to mention there were no bowls for cereal. Then on going up again we had to mention there were no bowls for cereal or milk. And on ordering breakfast, mine and my partners food came in a reasonable time but the baby's didn't come. I had to chase this twice and we'd finished everything else at this point, I think from order to receiving the food it was probably around 40 minutes to get his bowl of porridge. It wasn't busy at all (literally a handful of tables), with the other table receiving their food before him despite ordering after, so I found this frustrating and not the service you'd expect. I think we were the last ones to leave because it took so long. The experience was really disappointing overall, especially having recently had an excellent experience at the neighbouring Holiday Inn. If you have a family, I'd recommend staying there instead. If you choose to stay at Abode, I would strongly recommend bringing your own crib and going elsewhere for breakfast.

We are genuinely sorry to hear the baby cot was not comfortable for your little one. We take a lot of care when setting up our cots and always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure a firm, flat, and safe sleeping surface. We also take extra care with the linen and padding. We noticed in the photo that the linen sheet had been completely removed, which is not how our team sets them up. This makes it a little difficult for us to see exactly how it was originally arranged. We’re also sorry for the other issues you experienced with the room amenities and cleanliness. These have been noted and will be addressed with the team. We apologise too that breakfast didn’t run as smoothly as it should have. We stayed at the Abode Chester Hotel recently as we have stayed there in the past, with the expectation of a pleasant experience. Unfortunately this was not to be the case. The first disappointment happened when we went to check in, we were told that the breakfast included was the basic standard continental and did not include a cooked breakfast/anything from the cooked breakfast menu. This is a recent change to their policy apparently and cooked breakfast options will be at an additional charge. This was not made clear when we booked (admittedly via booking.com). The Abode hotel used to include all options at breakfast at no extra premium, which is what we expected. Have we had known this when booking, we would have booked another hotel as the Abode is now no longer good value for money. Other disappointments include, poor lighting in the room, shower was a bit mouldy and one of my pet hates, NO COMPLIMENTARY WATER, c’mon Abode, it’s a basic human right, how much can a bottle of water cost?!. The breakfast dining area looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for a while, I practically sat in someone’s breakfast, appalling!. We shall stay elsewhere next time.
