AMIGO Tsuyoshi (Nishikamata, Ota-ku, Tokyo/Nearest station: Kamata) Raab Moo (lunch menu) 1100 yen AMIGO Tsuyoshi is a Thai restaurant that opened in 2010 in the bar district (Bourbon Road) along the Tokyu Line tracks, a 3-minute walk from the west exit of JR Kamata Station. The shop was started by an Iranian husband and a Thai wife, and currently his son Tsuyoshi is running the shop. A family-run business with a homely atmosphere. The store's name, ``AMIGO,'' means ``friend'' in Spanish, but it seems to be a combination of the husband's name, ``Amir,'' and his son's name, ``Tsuyoshi.'' It seems that they want a lot of friends to come and make the shop more exciting. The lunch menu is priced at 1,100 yen and has 6 types: gapao rice, pad thai (fried noodles), khao man gai (thai chicken rice), larb moo (minced pork salad), and taylor noodles. The interior of the store is long and narrow with six tables lined up in the back. This popular restaurant is often full during lunchtime with local residents and office workers. I've been here once in July 2017, but this is my first visit in about 7 years. When I came here before, my impression was that the food was delicious, but at that time smoking was allowed inside the restaurant even during lunch time, which made me uncomfortable as a non-smoker. Smoking is currently prohibited inside the store. I chose "Raab Moo" from the lunch menu. "Laab" is a local dish from the Isan region in northeastern Thailand, near Laos, and is a dish of meat and fish mixed with herbs, chili peppers, fish sauce, lime, and roasted rice flour. "Mu" means pig. When ordering, you will be asked if you can add cilantro. I love cilantro, so of course I can. It uses fresh domestic pork delivered directly from a butcher, and is tossed with spices, herbs, and vegetables such as cilantro sent directly from the farm and sweet red onions. It is also characterized by the use of roasted and crushed rice as a seasoning, adding a unique aromatic flavor and chewy texture. The pork is coarsely ground and then lightly boiled to remove excess fat, resulting in a refreshing taste. Since it is not stir-fried, grilled, or simmered, it is treated as a salad (aemono), but it is an excellent side dish. The seasonings and spices are carefully imported from Thailand, and the dish has a complex flavor with sweet, spicy, and acid intertwining. The spiciness gradually makes your tongue tingle, and the portion is quite large, so as you eat more and more, the spiciness gradually builds up, but you can subdue the spiciness by eating the cabbage and cucumber that come with it. Comes with vegetable soup and rice. The soup contains eggs, celery, and wood ear mushrooms, making it very filling. The rice is also generously sized. Containers containing flavor-altering seasonings are placed on the table. 4 types: coarsely ground hawk claws (produced in Tianjin, China), shishito peppers pickled in Thai vinegar, spicy and sour chili sauce, and sugar. You can add sweetness, sourness, or spiciness to suit your taste. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ¥1,000–2,000 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
