We had such high hopes for Agave & Rye and were really excited to try somewhere new while visiting Lexington. Unfortunately, our experience was pretty disappointing. The restaurant wasn't busy at all—there were only about three other tables. We asked for a booth, and when our waitress seated us, she noticed the seats were soaking wet. She grabbed a few napkins to wipe them down, but they were still very wet. Instead of moving us to another booth, we were asked to sit there anyway. By the time we finished, both my jean shorts and my husband's shorts were wet. The drinks were delicious and were honestly the highlight of the meal. We each ordered three different tacos. My carne asada was so tough that it felt like I was chewing forever, and the salmon in the fish taco was severely overcooked. The only taco I actually enjoyed was the Brussels sprouts taco. My husband's experience wasn't any better. His beef fajita taco was bland, under-seasoned, and difficult to chew. The other two tacos were disappointing as well. We reached the point where we just wanted to leave. I do want to give credit to our waitress. She was the only server working the entire restaurant and was clearly hustling. It seemed like there was only one cook and one person at the front as well. Even though the restaurant wasn't busy, it took quite a while to get our check and head out. We really wanted to love this place because the concept is fun and the atmosphere has so much personality. Sadly, the food and overall experience just didn't live up to our expectations.
