This was one of the most magical moments of a 3 week tour across Honshu. My friend and I had got caught in an icy downpour whilst descending the nearby mountain pass, and were a scary level of cold. The second we stepped into Akari, we were greeted by the warmth of the log burning stove and the lovely owner. She welcomed us in, sat us by the fire and allowed us to defrost, before making us the most delicious bowl of udon noddles I’ve ever tasted. Through Google Translate she asked questions about our trip, and even got her daughter (I think) on a video call to talk to us. It was a lovely experience, and one that stands out from our trip.
