Had a brilliant meal at Akatsuki. We started with the okonomiyaki, loaded with prawns, squid, pork and potato, and it was easily one of the most generous versions we've come across. The batter was cooked to a perfect crisp on the outside while staying soft and savoury within, and the filling was so full of seafood and pork that every bite had something different in it. The potato added a lovely subtle sweetness that balanced out the richness of the sauce and bonito flakes on top. The gold rush corn was a genuine surprise. Sweet, buttery and almost caramelised, it tasted more like a treat than a side dish. We ended up fighting over the last few kernels and had to order a second portion because it was just that good. The pork yakisoba was comforting and well balanced, with tender chewy noodles coated in a rich, savoury sauce and generous chunks of pork throughout. Nothing felt like an afterthought, every dish clearly had care put into it. What really stood out, alongside the food, was how generous the portions were across the board. There was no skimping on ingredients anywhere. The staff were warm and attentive too, more than happy to tweak dishes to suit what we fancied, which made the whole experience feel personal rather than just transactional. All in all, a fantastic meal from start to finish. We'll definitely be back. Price per person: ¥3,000–4,000
