The best hibachi I’ve ever had. I always choose to come here for special occasions or if friends are in town and everyone always loves it. The chefs are incredible and so sweet and same with the whole staff. :). Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

A waitress with blonde highlights asked my sister if she wanted to take her remaining sushi home, and she clearly said yes. The roll cost $17. The waitress then threw the sushi away. When we politely explained that my sister had intended to keep it, the waitress argued back, insisting, “No, you said you didn’t want it.” Our entire party spoke up and confirmed that we all heard my sister say yes. We then asked if the roll could be replaced, but the waitress refused. It was not even refunded. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a restaurant refuse to correct its own mistake. It’s a shame, because we were frequent customers, but after this experience we won’t be returning. UPDATE: Unfortunately, the owner’s response is not an accurate account of what happened. The waitress didn’t “understand it differently,” she didn’t understand my sister’s response in general. When asked, my sister said “Yes, that would be great thanks.” We specifically asked for the sushi roll to be replaced after it was thrown away, and the waitress laughed and said “No, sorry.” We shouldn’t have even had to ask for the roll to be replaced as it was a mistake on the waitress’ part that was kindly brought to her attention. My sister saying “that’s okay” was her being polite after the mistake occurred, not declining a replacement. We were never offered one. Our entire table also heard her originally say that she wanted the sushi boxed. Also, to clarify the statement that our table was brought “complimentary desserts,” we were given one order of mochi to share. Sure the dessert was noticed, but did not change the fact that we asked for the $17 roll to be replaced and were told no. What’s most important here is that we still had to pay for the entire roll! I’m disappointed to see the restaurant publicly lie, claiming they would have happily replaced it when that is exactly what we asked them to do.

Akira is one of the best sushi and hibachi restaurants in the Capital Region. Whether you’re grabbing a quick meal at the bar, enjoying dinner at a table, or bringing a group to one of the large hibachi tables in the back, the staff is always welcoming and ready to provide excellent service. The restaurant does a great job making everyone feel comfortable and welcome. It’s the kind of place where families, friends, couples, and coworkers can all enjoy a great meal together. You can stop in casually after work or come dressed up for a special occasion, and you’ll fit right in. The food is consistently outstanding. The sushi is fresh, the hibachi is always entertaining and delicious, and the menu offers something for everyone. I’ve brought people from New York City who were convinced nothing around here could compare to their favorite sushi spots, and they left impressed by both the quality of the food and the overall experience. One thing I appreciate is that if there is ever an issue with an order, the staff is quick to make it right. They genuinely care about their customers and take pride in what they do. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between upscale and comfortable. The restaurant is beautiful inside, but never feels stuffy or pretentious. The hibachi tables are especially fun for families, kids, birthdays, celebrations, and nights out with friends. A special thank you to Michelle, who does a wonderful job managing the restaurant and helping create such a friendly, welcoming environment. Akira has earned its reputation as a local favorite.
