Had the Wednesday bottomless dinner, the food was actually really good, however the speed of the service made me never wanting to come back again. The entrees were served pretty fast but we waited 1 hour for the main to be served, and that’s not until 15min after we reminded them. We were just sitting at our table with a gap of more than 40min with no food left. and we tried to call the waiters but they all seem really occupied. We also ordered a second serving of calamari while waiting for the main, but we waited over 30min for that too. Honestly really disappointed in the experience, will never come back again. Thank you for your honest feedback, Annie. We are really glad you enjoyed the food, but we apologise for the service timing let your experience down. Waiting that long for mains and additional dishes, especially during a set offering, isn’t the standard we aim for. We’re reviewing our Wednesday service flow with the team to ensure this doesn’t happen again. I appreciate you bringing it to our attention, and I hope we have the chance to provide you with a much smoother experience in the future.

I have mixed feelings about Alatonero. When we first arrived, I was impressed by the exterior and interior — it made me feel like I’m back home on my island in Greece. We booked the AYCE dinner, which they have on Wednesdays for $45pp. This requires a $25pp hold on your credit card too. It took 35 minutes for the first dishes to arrive. By that stage, we were getting pretty hungry as we were watching people around us eating. The saganaki was a standout — very tasty and we had to order it again. Unfortunately, the calamari weren’t Greek style, so they were nothing special. The dips were good, but not exceptional in any way. The tarama here was my favourite. The warm pita bread was a treat. It took a long time for the meat course to arrive and, as soon as it was getting placed in front of us, I knew I won’t be a fan. This was not Greek food in any shape or form. The lamb was completely tasteless and it looked like it was stewed. I didn’t enjoy it and didn’t touch it. The chicken was marinated in some spices and grilled — it didn’t even resemble anything you’d eat in Greece. The chicken itself was good and succulent, but this was not what I was expecting at all. As we were hungry, we asked for more chicken. We received a single piece (not sure if it’s breast or a thigh) cut into pieces. That was bizarre. So we shortly asked for more and, another 10-ish minutes later, we were brought another two. We ordered chips and salad on the side. These two meals were $40 (!!!) and one of my friends had a glass of soda water, which was $7.50! Insane prices! Overall, a nice drive down from Melbourne and an OK dinner. Would we comeback? Absolutely not — there’s countless of authentic Greek restaurants all over the city. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–60 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Hi George, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback and for making the trip down from Melbourne to visit us at Alatonero. We’re really pleased to hear that the atmosphere and design brought back memories of Greece for you — that feeling of being transported to a Greek island. It’s also great to hear you enjoyed the saganaki, tarama and warm pita — those are some of our favourite dishes as well. That said, we’re genuinely sorry to hear about the delays you experienced on Wednesday night. Our All-You-Can-Eat nights are extremely popular, and while we work hard to maintain quality and flow of service, there can occasionally be wait times between courses. Your feedback is very helpful and we will review this with our kitchen team to ensure a smoother experience. Regarding the flavours of the meat dishes, our take is combining traditional influences with a slightly modern approach. We understand that every guest has their own expectations of what Greek food should be, and we appreciate you sharing your perspective. Thank you also for your comments about pricing — we aim to provide high-quality ingredients and a full dining experience, but we always value hearing how guests perceive this. We truly appreciate you visiting us and sharing your thoughts. Feedback like yours helps us continue to refine what we do. Warm regards, The Alatonero Team

Hi Filippa, Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and detailed review — we truly appreciate it. We’re thrilled you enjoyed the food, and it’s lovely to hear the outdoor space added to your experience. I’m also glad our vegetarian options hit the mark — flavour is everything for us. Wonderful to know the little touches for families made a difference too. We love creating a space that feels welcoming for everyone. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Warm regards, Alatonero team.
