You know how Italians are hyper critical of Italian food outside of Italy? Well, this restaurant is Italian-approved. My Dad was visiting from Italy and I wanted to treat him to a birthday lunch. A friend recommended this place for - I was super skeptic, but didn’t want to sound whiny and rude, so I just bit the bullet and went with it. We ordered the catch of the day (grilled salmon). The menu looked pricey, but the entrée came with pasta in a wonderful freshly made tomato sauce AND a mixed salad dressed like a REAL Italian salad (good olive oil, red wine vinegar and a touch of salt - and enough dressing to soak up some of their warm and crusty bread, as an honour to the chef!). And if you think the pasta and salad are side-sized, think again! I had to box half of my meal to take home (and I can’t wait to eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow!) Plus the birthday tiramisu (very nice gesture, in line with the rest of the service), perfect espresso, and we had to turn down the grappa this time. But there’ll definitely be a next time! Every time AL's birthday rolls around, I have to remind myself to wear stretchy pants since I know we'll be going for Italian food. Nothing gets the party (or food coma) started quite like pasta. Since we like to try a different restaurant each time our group meets, lots of different Italian options were thrown around. Meeting on a Monday wasn't ideal since our first restaurant choice was closed. We eventually settled on Allegro Italian Kitchen, which actually has three locations around the city. Downtown, Little Italy, and Parkview, which is where we went. I'm assuming all three locations are affiliated with each other, but it seems as if each restaurant sports a slightly different menu.
