Had a soft taco and a beef burrito took me back to when I was in Mexico. So good highly recommend friendly staff, really like how the servers and the hot sauces. Highly recommend the chilly jam. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Food and drinks are always presented well and tastes great. Love the variety of food with something for everyone. The staff are always friendly and willing to help with anything. I Really enjoy the tacos as you can try a few different ones rather than just getting one meal. The brisket taco was so good Its great having the outside area for a nice day too. Review: Amigos Invercargill – An Arctic Wind Tunnel with Limited Options Rating: If you are looking for a dining experience that simulates being trapped in a walk-in freezer during a Southland gale, Amigos Invercargill is the place for you. The slogan promises "Hot Mexican & Cool Margaritas," but the only thing "cool" here is the draft. The restaurant’s layout is an absolute disaster; the "Wait to be Seated" sign is positioned directly inside the automatic doors, meaning every time a new customer arrives, the entire restaurant is blasted with icy air. The amateurish design suggests the architect was either completely checked out or had never considered Invercargill’s climate. Beyond the freezing environment, the menu is surprisingly restrictive compared to a regular Mexican restaurant. The choices are limited; for example, the quesadilla is only available with pork. If you are looking for a traditional slow-cooked beef option, you are out of luck. To top it off, the furniture is subpar. The tables are scruffy and reminiscent of old, beaten-up primary school desks—hardly the comfort or quality you'd expect for a night out. The atmosphere was so uncomfortable and the design so poorly thought out that I couldn't even justify staying. I walked out and found a venue that actually understands both Mexican cuisine and basic customer comfort. Verdict: Avoid. Between the limited menu and the wind tunnel floor plan, it’s not worth the frostbite. Price per person: $1–10 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Hi Dawn & Anthony, We’re disappointed to read this, particularly as you mention you chose not to stay and dine with us. For future readers, we’d like to clarify a few points. Invercargill weather can certainly be brisk at times, and while our entryway design is common across many hospitality venues, our team works hard to seat guests promptly and keep the restaurant comfortable. In terms of menu variety, we offer a wide range of options including multiple burritos, nachos, and over a dozen taco combinations across beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian, and other proteins. While not every protein is available in every single dish, our menu is far from limited. Regarding our furniture and décor, much of it is intentionally repurposed and restored. We’re proud to reuse and give new life to materials rather than sending them to landfill. Sustainability matters to us, and that choice is deliberate. We’re sorry we didn’t get the opportunity to serve you on this occasion, but we stand confidently behind both our food and the experience we provide to thousands of happy guests each year.
