I tried Broth on Main in person, and had takeout a week later. Here’s my take: This place has potential - the image, the location, the atmosphere, and very sweet owners / folks running the place. You can tell even down to the packaging being stamped with their logos - real effort goes into this spot. Which is why I want to point out a few downfalls, in hopes the owners can pick up on these, as we have now gone twice and won’t go again, here’s why: 1. The broth is super bland. I ordered the veggie pho, and of course veggie pho is meant to be tamer but not like straight water. Today was tough. We ordered and had a really bland soup. Just zero flavor, no green onion shavings (like most Vietnamese restaurants do), just very plain. 2. If you have bland broth, at least make up with having tofu? I’m surprised there’s no options for vegetarian’s. Although not one myself, I opt for tofu often and found the 2/2 on the veggie pho to be a loss. The broccoli was completely uncooked or warmed it was like I’d gone in the fridge, Grabbed a fist of carrots and broccoli cold and threw it in the soup. I didn’t feel the love in this food at all. If the flavor is there, nobody would care about presentation. Also - why not make your own chili oil? SEA Pho and this spot are the very first I’ve been to in the country where they just throw a packet of sriracha and call it chili oil. You need to have some authenticity here. This is like Chipotle calling themselves Mexican cuisine. This is the Chipotle of Vietnamese food, just lacking authenticity and wanting to be a more American / modern take versus being real Vietnamese food. It would boost your ability to be different by having something as small as chili oil. When I see the boxes all stamped, your logo everywhere on our takeout, I know there could be a stronger effort to the more valuable pieces we as customers look for, especially as routine Vietnamese pho eaters. 3. Chicken Satay - the picture on the website / order online showered very elongated skewers, really looked appetizing. I’ve had this numerous times at dozens of other restaurants. When I got our box, opened it, the purple cabbage on the bottom stained the chicken entirely, turning the underside a very unappetizing purple hue. The skewer was small, smelled off and just looked odd. At the end of lunch I gave the spare untouched skewer to my dog, and he wouldn’t eat it. We just felt it was so funky he too noticed it. 3 - Pricing was a bit out of field. $8 for a pineapple H20 smoothie seems a bit steep for all fruit. In Greece, I pay $7 for a large sized smoothie. This is half the size, higher the price. The chicken Satay too was expensive, and not appetizing for the price. We never even ate it. $30 before tip for bland pho, two small chicken skewers and a small smoothie isn’t going to have me running back multiple times a week. Overly expensive. 4- Hours. We spent four months just attempting to try this place out, but due to only being open Monday - Friday during work hours only, it’s doing a huge disservice to folks who waited forever to try and are really let down. I’d argue with the building - half your clientele is weekends, and the entire building is closed. Just doesn’t make sense. Y’all are better off as a food truck - it took a whole excursion to come visit and try the food, I wish the emphasis to the bigger more important focuses were there. Less focus on pretty stamped takeout boxes and stickers on cups, and more emphasis to your clientele, quality of broth and food, and flavor are incredibly needed. The name is great. The location is pretty but the hours are insane. The food is mediocre but the service is excellent. The packaging is modern, yet the food is subpar. We want to support but the price and the quality isn’t worth the trouble to get the food itself. Again, a great concept and I hope to come back in 6 months and try it again, hopefully when some updates are made, but this won’t be our routine spot because the basics are just missing. This is more of an American Pho than actual Vietnamese food. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $30–50 Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Parking space: Difficult to find parking Parking options: Paid street parking
