The breads were not too sweet, which I really liked. Everything I bought was delicious. However, the bakery is very small and doesn’t have enough space for more than six people. Because the shop is so small, customers have to take a number and wait in line to enter in order. The wait was long and inconvenient just to buy bread. One thing that made me uncomfortable was that one female staff member was not very polite when speaking English with me at the cashier. I was the customer paying, not my child. I noticed she spoke kindly in Japanese to the Japanese couple next to us, so the difference in attitude was disappointing. These were the best baked goods I've ever had, and I spent a couple of weeks in Paris. My only regret here was not buying more The melonpan was crispy on the outside, and the inside had a nice chew to it. The chocolate one pictured was chocolatey without being too sweet, and was extremely flaky. The matcha one had a generous amount of matcha in its filling, and was also not too sweet The queueing system is a little confusing, even to locals, but it's a small price to pay for these delicious baked goods Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: ¥1,000–2,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

A Must-Visit in Kobe! Hands down the best bakery in the area. If you are a bread lover visiting Kobe, you absolutely cannot miss Bakery RIKI. It’s a small shop located near Motomachi Station (West Exit) and just a short walk from Chinatown, but you’ll recognize it instantly by the long queue of locals waiting outside. The Queue & Experience: I arrived around 11:40 AM and was lucky that the line wasn't too long. The staff is incredibly organized—they have clear signs on how to line up so as not to block the sidewalk. I waited about 15 minutes before being allowed inside. Because the shop is quite small, they only let a few people in at a time, which is great because it gives you space to choose. The Bread: The moment you step in, the smell of freshly baked butter and flour is heaven! One thing to note: all the labels are in Japanese only, so I had to rely on my instincts (and Google Lens!). Plain Croissant: Incredibly thin, crispy layers. It had a deep, toasted flavor. If you prefer a croissant that isn't overly greasy or heavy on the butter smell, you will love this. Orange Tart: Very refreshing! They use fresh orange slices rather than syrupy canned fruit, so there’s a nice hint of natural zest. The pastry base stayed crispy even until the next day. Pistachio White Chocolate Bread: This was my favorite! I initially thought it was matcha, but it turned out to be a rich, nutty pistachio. The bread was chewy and the filling wasn't too sweet. Highly recommended! Important Tips for Travelers: CASH ONLY: They do not accept credit cards or IC cards, so make sure you have Japanese Yen ready. Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Plan your visit accordingly so you don't miss out. Location: It’s in a side street near the Motomachi West Exit. If you see a line of people, you’re in the right place! Prices are very reasonable for the quality (around 380-850 yen). This is a tiny shop with a huge heart and even better bread. Definitely worth the wait! Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ¥1–1,000 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
