My wife and I were only in Nagoya for a single night and quite by chance chose BAR BASQUE for a tapas-centered dinner. Little did we know that we would experience one of the true highlights of our 17 day tour of Japan. As has been written in so many reviews, the food was simply outstanding. My wife has professional culinary training and she was stunned at the perfection of the paella and the many small dishes that we enjoyed. However the best treat of all was saved for last - the Basque cheesecake! Without question, it was the finest cheesecake we have ever enjoyed. It may well be the finest dessert that we've ever had! (Yes, it's that good!) However, despite this incredible feast, the true star of the night was the chef/owner and all that he did to make us feel welcome and part of the family. This Japan trip was a treat-to-self as I celebrate my 70th birthday. When the staff discovered this, the Basque cheesecake appeared served on a platter with (delicious) chocolate lettering wishing me a happy birthday and with sparklers festively glowing. After our meal on the way out, we were accompanied by the chef for one final goodbye and picture. While the actual date of my birthday would follow one week later, that night marked the true celebration. It is an evening that will fondly be remembered for a long time to come - not just for great food & drink - but also for wonderful fellowship. We highly recommend BAR BASQUE.
