My wife selected Bata as her dining experience of choice for her birthday this year. We had a group of 5 for the occasion, and all of us were extremely impressed by everything. I wish I’d taken a picture of the menu, because we tried lots of dishes, but I can’t remember everything I ate! Everything tasted absolutely fabulous, though. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and attentive when we had questions she didn’t know, making sure to check with the chef so we could learn while we dined. We were very impressed with the locally-sourced ingredients and the restaurant’s commitment to reducing food waste in creative ways, as well as the offerings for vegetarian and vegan diners, as two in our party were such. Because it was a birthday, our table had a nice little ‘happy birthday’ card when we arrived, and we were surprised and delighted when we were served one of each dessert on the menu at no charge. While the plates are a bit small, they are great for sharing. Almost everybody at our table was passing their plates around so others could taste, and by the end of the night, we were all full and very very satisfied—we even had extra to take home! Every dish was delicious and everything we tried was both distinct and also cohesive when eaten together. Additionally, when we expressed interest in seeing the fermenting room, we were permitted downstairs and shown/taught all about how the restaurant is converting would-be waste into creative and flavorsome ingredients. The chefs accommodating our interest in the food and how they make it was such a special treat! Despite the minimalist interior and open kitchen, the acoustics in the dining room are excellent. I am extremely sound-sensitive and often have to wear ear protection while dining out because dining rooms are so loud, but I was comfortable and relaxed the entire evening. Who this restaurant is for: Customers who value food and have a legitimate interest in its preparation, being educated about food, and food’s potential to be an artistic experience Customers who value sustainability and local sourcing Customers who are willing to pay a bit of a premium for a truly unique experience Customers who enjoy personalized service and wish to linger and savor Groups who are interested in trying and sharing a multitude of dishes and small plates People interested in vegetarian and vegan dishes. Thank you, chef Tyler, and the entire staff at Bata, for an unforgettable and fabulous dining experience. We will absolutely be back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $90–100 Recommendation for vegetarians: Highly recommend Vegetarian offerings: Vegetarian menu or section Kid-friendliness: I don’t think I’d try to eat here with small children. Teens or pre-teens with an interest in food may appreciate it, but small children likely wouldn’t.

I stopped by at BATA while going cross country. This was easily the best place we could’ve stopped in Tuscon. The food was impeccable and the service was equally good. We then went to the bar downstairs, and the drinks were great as well! Overall spectacular experience. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
