The restaurant is a mixed bag. First , the good .My server was very pleasant friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu.The decor and atmosphere was fun and casual. I had the variety plate of fried chicken , catfish and rib tips. It came with a choice of two sides. I chose collard greens and mac and cheese. The fried chicken was excellent-crispy, very well seasoned and not at all greasy. The catfish had a delicious honey cornmeal coating and was tender and flaky inside. I later ordered candied sweet potatoes , also delicious. The corn bread of course was wonderful . The bad—the mac and cheese was dry, tasteless with almost no flavor of cheese. Not up to the. standard for a good soul food restaurant. The collard greens were too salty and full of tough stems. The rib tips were too chewy and the sauce very mediocre and without much flavor. To sum up the experience this is one of those places to get a very tasty meal in colorful surroundings—- IF you order the right items from the menu. However some work definitely needs to be done to bring everything up to par. I will come again and partake of the standout items , while hoping that the disappointments will be attended to. I have NEVER in my 45 years of life had SOUL FOOD this DELICIOUS from a restaurant! and Monell’s in Nashville, Tennessee is my favorite! BAAAAAAAABEEEEEE! The food and presentation was everything! Briana our server was THE BOMB. Detroit and Cornbread Restaurant & Bar owes me nothingNOT A THANG! Did I tell y’all I asked for the chef to come out?! He was very humble and kind. As they say in the D, “what up doe?!” Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Louisiana Style Gumbo, Catfish Dinner, Mac & Cheese, Fried Shrimp
