Finding a memorable dining spot while on holiday often comes down to pure luck, and that was certainly the case with our visit to Bite. After a long, relaxing day of sightseeing, my wife and I were frankly too tired to venture far out for dinner. Looking for something convenient yet satisfying, we decided to give Bite a shot—and it turned out to be one of the culinary highlights of our entire trip. The menu strikes a versatile balance, offering both classic Western comfort foods like pastas and steaks alongside an extensive selection of authentic Indonesian local favourites. Given our setting, we gravitated toward the local specialties and ordered the Seafood Nasi Goreng and the Mie Goreng, accompanied by a side of Beef Satay to share. When the food arrived, we quickly realized we had drastically underestimated the portion sizes. Calling them generous is an understatement. Both the Nasi Goreng and the Mie Goreng were served on massive platters, beautifully seasoned, fragrant, and bursting with fresh, bold flavours. What surprised us most was the comprehensive spread of accompaniments included on each plate. Each main dish came loaded with crisp salad, fiery sambal, refreshing acar (a tangy pickled vegetable medley reminiscent of a local sauerkraut), and emping crackers, which added a pleasant, earthy crunch. Because the mains were already full feasts in their own right, our "side" of beef satay pushed the meal well over the edge. Rather than the modest appetizer we anticipated, the satay arrived in a generous portion that could easily pass as a standalone main course. The beef was tender, well-marinated, and carried a wonderful smoky char from the grill, perfectly paired with a rich peanut sauce. We did our best, but it was simply too much food for the two of us to conquer. To wash it all down, I ordered a White Russian from the bar. Interestingly, it was crafted with a dollop of whipped cream on top instead of the standard splash of heavy cream. It was a creative, slightly playful twist that made the cocktail feel like a decadent dessert in a glass—smooth, well-balanced, and thoroughly enjoyable. The dining atmosphere matched the excellence of the kitchen. Because we sat down on the later side around 8:00 PM, the dining room was peaceful and quiet, free from the usual rush-hour clamour. The air was crisp, refreshing, and comfortably cool. Paired with sweeping mountain vistas and the vibrant, streaming colours of the twilight sky fading in the background, the ambience was nothing short of serene. Rounding off the evening was the exceptional service. The staff were remarkably attentive, checking in regularly to ensure we had everything we needed without ever hovering or interrupting our meal. If you appreciate bold local flavours, massive portions, thoughtful hospitality, and a breathtaking mountain setting, Bite is well worth the visit. Just remember to bring a serious appetite!
