Café Lyon is a very interesting restaurant in that it serves fine dining-level French cuisine at fine dining prices, with more or less fine-dining service in a regular restaurant environment. In fact, look in from the street and it's consistently busy, but you'd never know the calibre of the food that's being cooked up. Compared to the other restaurants in the strip, Café Lyon is in a significantly higher price league, with the a fixed a la carte price structure. For dinner, 2 courses is $75 and 3 courses is $89, with additional supplements for certain dishes. Definitely not cheap, so we were expecting great things. I've given the food a 5 stars as it was quite impressive, especially the pork belly entree and the pear tart. I loved the toughness of the crackling on the pork and the juicy fatty bits, and the harmony of flavours on the pear tart. However, the beef fillet I thought wasn't so outstanding. Without the sauce, I couldn't really taste much from the fillet itself, which was slightly disappointing but still good. For a dish that would usually cost around $50-60 I wasn't very convinced. For dessert, DEFINITELY try the Honeycomb Bomb Alaska. Service was decent however inconsistent among the staff. Certain waiters definitely possessed more knowledge about the menu items than others (which should be a pre-requisite at such a fine restaurant). The restaurant was very busy, but it didn't always seem like we had the attention of the waiters, e.g. when we wished to order. The food also took a very long time to arrive, with the biggest gap between the entree and mains (around 30-45 minutes between finishing entree and mains arriving). In total we spent around 2 hours and 15 minutes at Café Lyon. It's a great ambience, with French flags hung across the ceiling in a very charming way and real candles, but sitting on a wooden chair can get tiring after 2 hours. We enjoyed our experience here, even if it was a little drawn out, but would recommend at least trying this restaurant out. Your mileage may vary depending on how much you favour French food, but personally I don't feel like the quality of service and cooking matched its $90+pp pricetag (with supplements and surcharge). Something like $60-70 would be exceptional, $70-80 would be great value. I understand that this restaurant has more than enough demand however (there were people waiting for tables for much of the night), so naturally there is incentive to raise prices to match demand. two pookies project #22. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $80–100 Recommended dishes: Confit Duck, Honeycomb & Strawberry Bombe Alaska

do not come here if you are looking to eat quickly. the mains took 1 hour 15 minutes to come out. this restaurant does have great food but it is a very much sit around and meander kind of restaurant, although a little loud. i recommend the quail ballotine, it was really delicious. for mains, the beef fillet was tasty and the duck confit was mediocre. but the desserts were showstoppers, i loved the honeycomb bomb alaska and the pear tart tatin and would recommend both. it was quite busy tonight, despite being a wednesday night. this restaurant has tables packed closely together, but the closeness of the tables, loud hum of other people's conversations and the themed decor gives off the atmosphere of small french bistro. however, despite having four floor staff tonight, the floor was non-stop hectic. no one was around to switch out our empty water bottle. its a four star because unfortunately, the restaurant was a little too chaotic, loud and crowded, the service was busied but slow, and the food was a bit overpriced for its quality. i made the mistake of not having a glass of wine, it may have changed my experience. certainly worth a visit. this is one of the few higher-end restaurants in the area, but unfortunately unlikely to recommend. two pookies project #22.
