Overall I came away very disappointed from this experience. My sister and I have Celiac disease and I had called in advance to check to see if there was gluten free pasta available and to see if the kitchen was able and willing to *boil clean water* for the gluten free pasta. The girl on the phone confirmed that they were able to do so after having checked with the kitchen, and I also checked with the server and I felt like he had confirmed that, too. I want to say our server was great and I understand the restaurant industry as a person who also works as a server at an Italian restaurant and know how tricky it can be. He did come back and say that they can’t guarantee that our meal would be completely free of cross contamination. We understand this and are on vacation so we were trying to work with limited options so we were ok to make this concession. However my sister ended up finding a gluten noodle in her pasta. This is upsetting because I specifically brought up using clean water as this is *always* the primary culprit in these scenarios for Celiac people. Of course guarantees can’t be made, but if I made a specific request to take the extra 10 minutes to boil new water I did not expect that request to be negated by the usual disclaimer. It was late in the night and dinner service was generally at a close which means the water had been used repeatedly based on the stray rigatoni noodle. If we had been told that water would not be freshly boiled, we would have understood and adapted accordingly. It’s just disappointing that the kitchen did not treat our request with respect or concern. My sister and I are both now experiencing symptoms of our disease and are frustrated with the events of the night. Again, we really appreciate the care put in by our server but transparency about what the kitchen is willing and able to do beyond a disclaimer that would negate my previous request that had been confirmed would have been helpful. I hope that kitchen staff will receive further training on Celiac precautions in the future for the sake of other customers and in the interest of the restaurant’s service. Favorite Italian restaurant in Reno...again! I used to come here with my girlfriends all the time, but we haven't been back since last year. We came here this past weekend for drinks and decided to stick around for dinner. The back patio is adorable and the staff are just delightful. It's expensive to go out and eat now a days, but I will happily give my money to Calafuria. My girls and I will be back here all summer. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
