Turning 50 was kinda scary.  Was about to go through some sort of mid life crisis.  Didn't know how to cope turning half a century.  I almost was going to color my hair but people close to me discouraged me from doing so as I naturally have jet black hair.   That's a blessing. You know what's also a blessing?  When you have good friends who want to celebrate with you and realize you've now had 3 birthday dinners.  I was asked where I wanted to go and at first I was thinking of Pieology.  But I like surprises so I let my friends choose the venue.   And that was Canton Seafood Restaurant (CSR), where I dined tonight. We met up for an early dinner and literally found out last minute where we were going.  Luckily I live in town so it didn't take me long to get here.  As indicated on the Yelp app, with a designated private parking lot I pulled up, parked and walked into CSR to see my close friends already seated. The wait staff are trained well where they do their best to up sell by taking your drink order.  We were asked if we wanted alcoholic beverages, including wine, but we declined.  Hot tea and water were sufficient. I was asked to order the meal but I wanted collective input so I asked my friends to each order a dish.   Here's what we feasted on: Sweet Sour Cabbage with Squid (3.5/5) It was good with a nice crunch on the mustard cabbage but it was missing the bite I was looking for.  I want to taste that vinegar that's offset with some sweetness.  Also, the squid wasn't that tender. Ong Choy with Harm Ha Sauce (5/5) You need a gas stove with high butane heat to execute this vegetable well.  It's hard to cook ong choy at home so I like to order this when dining out.  It had a great crunch with that briny, fermented shrimp sauce.  Yum! House Special Fried Noodles (4/5) We mentioned what a great job the cook did by crisping the fine egg noodles and top it off with assorted meats and choy sum veggies in a savory gravy.  There were also some black mushrooms. Some of the meat however, lacked the tenderness that I'm accustomed to. Smoked Tea Duck (4.5/5) This dish was pretty tasty.   It was deep fried to crisp up the skin.   Very succulent meaty pieces with a subtle smokiness.  But one friend commented the flavor was barely there, which I agreed.  Could have been a bit stronger in my opinion.  Nonetheless, a solid main dish. Fresh Lobster with Ginger and Onion Sauce (3/5) They have a special where you get to order a whole lobster for $14.99 with each entree you order.   There were 5 of us so we had 2 lobsters.  I shouldn't expect much for this price but the lobsters were on the smaller side, hence minimal meat.  Lots of work for not much meat so I wasn't keen on this dish. Service was average for a Chinese restaurant.  One of my friends asked if they had any complimentary dessert so they gave us almond float without the fruit cocktail.  My friends also surprised me with a cake from Kulu Kulu and the wait staff kept it refrigerated for us prior to serving.  They also provided plates and forks for us to use.  Great service. Overall, a very pleasant dinner with decent Cantonese food at CSR.  The wait staff were accommodating to us, with the exception of the Yelp check in perk.   The application states to mention "Yelp check in" when ordering but there was no price adjustment nor known perk as it is not defined on the application.  Both staff didn't seem to know what this is.   Rather than wonder what the perk is, what's more important is that I had a nice evening spent with close friends who surprised me with a birthday dinner along with a birthday cake. Now that's a blessing.
Our first time ordering, we got it delivered to our hotel. The food was really tasty!  My family, even the pickiest of eaters enjoyed it. We even ordered a second time they same weekend!
Food was delicious and service was great.
