This restaurant has been on my radar for awhile. There were two things that really caught my eye from its reviews on here - the rooftop patio and their amazing service staff. Multiple glowing reviews mention these two factors. So I wanted to see first hand. It was a beautiful night to be on their rooftop patio. The weather was warm with a slight breeze. These are evenings that rooftop patios were designed with in mind. The setting sun gave downtown Wheaton a warm glow. The food was good, but not great. We started with the arancini for an appetizer. The arancini ball itself was good, but it probably could have been helped out served atop a marina sauce. I got the squid ink pasta with lobster. First, the sauce was flavorful and had a nice kick of spice. Second, there was not enough lobster. Third, it was a smaller bowl of pasta than I was expecting for $30+ dollars. I was still hungry after finishing my entree. My date got the Cacio E Pepe. This dish is served tableside out of a giant cheese wheel. But unlike other restaurants that do similar, they do not light the wheel on fire and create the dish table side. They literally only “serve” it table side. This was a bit disappointing. The dish itself is creamy and cheesy. And you get a good sized portion. The service was respectable and what you would expect from an Olive Garden. From the reviews on here, though, I was expecting way more. We had Lizzie. The senior server came by at the end to tell us Lizzie has been a hostess there and recently was promoted to sever. And you could tell her inexperience. I asked Lizzie about the squid ink pasta with lobster while I was still reviewing the menu and she said, “I don’t know, I have never tried it.” She also left us alone without checking on us for long periods. And we were seated at 8pm, when things were slowing down. The senior server was going around and chatting up her tables (which likely is how the service here is so well reviewed). I, however, did not get that service. The service I got was far from “bad”, but certainly not exceptional. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Sogno. It is a solid Italian restaurant, but there are minor things that prevent from me raving about this place (not enough lobster, lackluster presentation of the Cacio E Pepe, just standard service). I wouldn’t have been let down if I had not read their reviews before dining here, but I had higher expectations of this place. Price per person: $40–50 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

The food was amazing. Everything tasted so good. There was a mix up with our gluten free meal, but the jumped on that meal and comped drinks. I will definitely be back.

Il Sogno – Wheaton, IL Top-notch service! The wait staff and runners were incredibly attentive all night, and our server, Rosaria, was fantastic. She knew the menu inside and out, gave excellent recommendations, and we’ll definitely be asking for her the next time we come in. A great surprise—20% off wine bottles on Saturdays—made the evening even better. Everything we ordered was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The only slight disappointment was the temperature of the meatballs, which came out a bit lukewarm, but the flavor was still excellent. The pear & pistachios salad, mushroom tagliatelle, affogato and limoncello gelato were incredibly delicious (huge portions) The atmosphere was fun but a little eclectic—part Italian décor mixed with Christmas knick-knacks and a few elements that felt almost like a Thai diner. Not bad, just a bit confused stylistically. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommend! Price per person: $50–100 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
