Wandering around Springvale and I saw a small line forming, they were having another BOGOF deal! Why not, I was thirsty. Their drinks menu has some certain buzz words such as “2 tastea” and “everlasting taste”, I had no idea which drinks they applied to and what they really meant. They also said they use 100% Australian sugar cane, in what though?
I just stuck with a couple of basics, I couldn’t find their original milk tea but i did see it with ice cream, what? I just ordered that and told them to omit the ice cream and halve the sugar content. The large sized cups were huge, much larger than all the other ones from other franchises. Tea was strong and the pearls were good, slightly gummy with a couple sticking together.
My other drink was their lychee jasmine with lychee jelly, to my surprise they had a couple whole lychees in there. Drink was sweet (I should have halved the sugar level for this one) and the jelly was chewy, I had to pop the lid for the lychee meat however. This was consumed a couple days after purchase as it holds well in the fridge.
They also do nice small snacks but not this time around. Service was pretty efficient despite the number of orders they had to fulfil that day.
16/12/18 - 3.5 Good
Is this a new bubble tea shop? Not really they've been here for awhile, just that no one ever went because it wasn't inviting and it's on "the other side of the street". If anything this is more of a re-launch with a buy one get one free deal (ends 20/11/18). Seems like they are serious by fully opening their doors and employing more staff.
With the BOGOF deal you are limited to a few options, enough to be happy with. I get their Hong Kong milk tea (large) with no alterations, pearls were slightly chewier than my preference, very close to getting it right however. It was sweet (as it should be) but not overly like milk tea can be at times so I'm glad I didn't make any changes. Pleasantly strong black tea taste.
In addition I also got the salted egg fries which were pretty egg-dictive (hoohoo). Wasn't as crispy by the time I got home but the favour was great with a distinct salted egg yolk taste, salty, sweet and slightly herbaceous. A real treat.
A couple other items they do here are egg waffles and bratwursts, I don't understand that either. I can't envision that being too popular but maybe it is as there was only one left. But when in Springvale banh mi is the roll of choice.
Pleasantly surprised and they offer items other vendors aren't selling as they are more traditionalists.
