Among Mexican food restaurants in Las Cruces a well known survey has the Chipotle Mexican Grill placed around twenty-first (21st). While people who hate chains and Mexican food aficianados will cringe at this rating, the overall bright and clean environment, the quick efficient service, and pretty good food help boost the rating. I enjoyed it.
First thing to notice....the tiny parking lot is somewhat problematic. It could be a problem.
The restaurant is sort of your typical fast food place.....slide down the line, order from the big board overhead and watch your food being prepared by an assembly line operation. The menu is kind of restricted. They offer their famous big burritos, a burrito bowl, hard and soft shell tacos, and a bowl of salad. That's about it. The prices are very reasonable.
I ordered a burrito and soft drink. Total price (2018) about $10.50. I requested barbacoa, cilantro-lime brown rice, black beans, tomato salsa (much like pico de gallo) roasted chile corn salsa, shredded lettuce, a dab of sour cream, and Monerey Jack cheese. I also requested a small cup of their hot tomatillo red chile salsa on the side.
The burrito was served wrapped in paper and set in a plastic basket. It was not a long burrito but a big fat stuffed burrito. The barbacoa was not greasy but still tasty. All the ingredients were fresh. The MANY LEVELS OF FLAVOR WERE ENJOYABLE. This was an nice meal for the price.
What to expect if you go: You will not find traditional Mexican or New Mex food here. I will call the food "Mexican inspired." What you will find here is a bright, clean place fine for casual dining, quick service, a very limited menu, reasonable prices, vegetarian options, and they prepare the food the way you want it....a big plus. The food can be quite tasty. This is upper level for fast food.
Restaurant rating = THREE-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS.....meaning, somewhere between above average and good for the overall dining experience. A superior fast food joint with no tipping.
