I arranged a baby shower for this location with afternoon tea for 17 people. We were told that they would be shutting the restaurant for us as we were a large group, however two weeks before the event, they advised that they would be keeping the outside area open for customers; therefore going back on their word. We were sent a menu which states that for £19 each you get a selection of homemade sandwiches and cakes.
To start, we suggested at least 5 sandwiches that most guests would eat, none of these were provided. They were all cheese and Tomato or salmon, which wasn’t on the list. One guest was gluten free and whilst they catered for this, it was requested they had salmon and they were the only guest not to get salmon.
Secondly, the cakes are not homemade. They are quite clearly purchased from the local Iceland which is a 4 minute drive away from the location. This is proven by the cakes provided and the images displayed on the Iceland website ( see photos for reference). We also asked the staff what the cakes were, flavours etc and they couldn’t tell us! This is also false advertising and not worth the money.
The chocolate afternoon tea is also not worth the £27 they charge. All you get is some small pots of chocolate, around 6 small sandwich fingers, 5 strawberries and some marshmallows with pretzels.
Whilst the food was disappointing and not as advertised, the service was also poor. The women running it, who I believe to be the owner was rude throughout our visit.
She advised when we went in that she had her own family dog there ( who is not a guide dog or assistant dog). She advised that this was a nervous dog and not to approach. However the dog was placed at the back of the restaurant, right near a toilet which customers use. This meant we had to walk past the dog. The dog went for multiple people on more than one occasion, including other customers that were allowed in. The dog was showing its teeth, growling and lunging towards people, with the only thing stopping it from harming people was the lead it was attached to, whilst it was tied to a table all afternoon. We raised this with the owner however she didn’t seem to care and just kept saying ‘ he’s just nervous’.
To add, other members of staff were also rude and heard to be saying ‘ we will kick them out at 15:30 unless they keep buying drinks’. This is not only rude but shows that they are only after money and don’t care about the customers experience. Myself and my party had all purchased drinks outside of the £365 we had already paid for this shambles of an afternoon tea.
When issues were raised about the food and the level of service, the owner became aggressive in her tone and started to raise her voice. This is completely unprofessional and not the correct way to speak to paying customers. She was also insulting in her tone and mimicked actions of guests.
I would strongly advice everyone to avoid this location unless you like over priced Iceland made food and your hand bitten by a dangerous dog.
