We recently celebrated our engagement party at Comuna Newstead, and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue! A huge thank you to Sera and Elisa for looking after our guests throughout the afternoon. They were so friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone was well taken care of. A very special shoutout to Eric, the manager, who went above and beyond from the very beginning. He was incredibly accommodating, worked with us to create a customised package, and made sure every little detail was taken care of. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and he genuinely helped bring our vision to life. The venue itself was absolutely beautiful. The interior complemented our white, blue and sage theme perfectly, and our guests couldn’t stop commenting on how lovely the space was. The food was outstanding! The tacos, chips, Cape Grim beef skewers and brownie bites were all favourites. I also accidentally tried the crumbed cauliflower taco, and to my surprise, it was absolutely delicious! We honestly couldn’t take photos of the food because it disappeared so quickly, everyone loved it so much that there was barely anything left on the plates! If you’re looking for a venue to host a special event, we couldn’t recommend Comuna Newstead more highly. From the exceptional service and delicious food to the beautiful atmosphere, everything exceeded our expectations. Thank you to the entire Comuna team for making our celebration so memorable! We can’t wait to come back!

I’ve been here 4 times since it opened a few months ago and love it. Food, atmosphere, ordering and staff (especially Emily) are fantastic. A great place to go for a quick bite or a longer celebration. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–60 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This place feels less like a lunch spot and more like an emotional support group that accidentally serves food and ALOTTTTT of alcohol. Also - where’s the Mexican flavour? If you’re here to drink your insecurities away, you’ll probably have a great time. If you came for a decent meal lower your expectations. The food was genuinely disappointing—cheaply put together and lacking any freshness. You could make something far better at home with a quick trip to Woolworths and half the effort. The atmosphere doesn’t help either. It’s loud in that chaotic, echoey way where every conversation becomes your business—drunk mums reliving their 20s, frustrated husbands arguing into their phones because they too are drunk and can’t book a flight, and just a general sense of noise over substance. That said, credit where it’s due: the staff were lovely and doing their best in the middle of it all. Overall, good for drinks if you’re in a certain mood but definitely not somewhere you go for the food. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $60–80 Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 1
