Normally I would have photos of wine and food. However was having such a great time with friends and the fab staff that I forgotas I basked in the wonderful experience that was “Contentious Character- foreshore edition”. Went to our new local, enjoyed the food, wine and company of friends and neighbours. Our waitstaff Liam was fantastic, knew their stuff and could totally read the room.what we needed and when. We arrived at 5pm left at something like 9pm. When we arrived the place was quarter to half full. By 7pm.730 onwards it was a heaving full house. Our party of 5 was still being served and attended to as if we were the only group in the place. Liam provided great service, with the perfect balance of knowledgeable advice on the food and wine and served us the smidge of professional sass that all Canberrans need from time to time. Liam totally read when we were ready to order more and when to give us some time to chat, laugh and sip. Helping us make decisions on our good dnd wine choice. Food was good. Perhaps my only recommendationif forced to provide feedback, would be larger share platesappreciate that I am mixing cuisines, but something like a lamb Fatthea, Albondigas, meat balls, roasted lamb shoulder, croquetas, stuffed mushrooms/peppers, skewers? Thanks again Contentious Character. We will be back. And another big shout to Liam for the playful and excellent service you provided us all. Remember Canberranslive, laugh sipdon’t take life to seriously. I hope you enjoy Contentious Character as much as we did! Karin

Meal today was disappointing. We frequently visited the previous location with friends and family and enjoyed their four course set menu on many occasions. The current Feed me menu is poor value at $65pp. For $65pp you get two arancini balls, one scallop and you share a chicken Maryland leg, with a side of potato fries and finished off with some gelato. This might be forgiveable if the food was really flavoursome but honestly it was so bland. The arancini was bland and the chicken was almost tasteless, it was basically chicken cooked in milk with some light spices on top. The side of "potato fries seasoned with rosemary citrus salt" was literally just deep fried chips from Coles or woolies with no rosemary added... on our chips anyway. Would have given this feedback in person but on settling the bill didn't even get asked how everything was, hence the review. One advantage of the new location is that it's close to Broadburger were we went to get a burger to fill us up after our $130+ lunch at Contentious .

We really miss what this place used to be (previous review on one of our occasions below). We visited frequently with friends and family (and a restaurant we always recommended to others) when they were in Wamboin and hadn’t had the opportunity to return since. Back then, they offered a magnificent four-course meal at a reasonable price, filling, tasty, and genuinely worth it. Today we came in to treat ourselves to the $65 Feed Me. We went in with realistic expectations, understanding that things change with the cost of living, but what we were served was honestly disappointing. Our Feed Me consisted of: two arancini balls, one scallop, a tiny shared chicken Maryland, a basic bowl of chips with sauce, and a shared trio of gelato. The scallop and gelato were nice, but for $65 per person this was nowhere near enough food. At the very least, we would have expected two scallops and a full Maryland chicken per person. For $130 total, the meal felt poor value and left us still hungry, we had to go elsewhere afterward. We walked away feeling let down and, frankly, a bit scammed. I had planned on ordering another glass of wine, but the experience completely put me off. If we had to order each item separately to share, it would come to $109.00. Cheaper than what we paid today. Such a shame to see the quality and generosity that once defined this place decline so noticeably. ****** Contentious Character is seriously a ‘’must try’ winery and restaurant. This was mine and my partners second visit to the winery and my parents first. We are all trying to work out when we can come again. We absolutely hate being rushed and love to sit, savour and enjoy our meals and that we did over the weekend. We had a half monty wine testing followed by the four course and finished with a coffee. The courses were not rushed, allowing us plenty of time to savour, enjoy and digest each course before the next. Two at our table had the matching wines and enjoyed every one. All staff are to be commended, from the booking staff, to the sommelier, waitresses, waiters and of cause, the incredible chefs. The food, oh my, the food… so delish. Every meal was visually appealing as well! I know on busy occasions such as Mother’s Day, Easter etc, you have to rightfully abide by the 90 mins but the long lazy lunch for a quieter Saturday we had over the weekend was perfect - and made it for us! Thank you. We had an absolutely delightful day and are trying to figure out when we can next go.
